Companies from Netherlands, Flanders and North Rhine-Westphalia are meeting to discuss the better usage of renewable energies in chemical industry. The chemical sector generates economic growth, triggers innovation and creates jobs. Nevertheless, the chemical sector is still responsible for huge an amount of CO2-emission and is still highly dependent on fossil fuels. The growing availability of new renewable feedstock will gain more importance in the future. The energy transition and the production peaks induced by solar and wind energy will create new opportunities for the chemical sector. This development could go very fast and a breakthrough is expected in the upcoming 5-10 years. To tackle the CO2-issue, a decrease in the CO2-output of the chemical industry and CO2-reductions achieved by using CO2 as a feedstock in chemical products are necessary. Besides, electrification of the chemical industry and the conversion of electricity in other products is desired. To realize a sustainable chemical sector, research on new technologies and investments are essential. The Netherlands, Flanders and North Rhine-Westphalia together form the heartland of Europe’s chemical sector and decided to develop a trilateral strategy to strengthen the chemical industry and cross-border collaborations. For this reason the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, VoltaChem, NRW.International GmbH and EnergieAgentur.NRW, organize this workshop on the 13th of September in Neuss (Germany). The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers and business developers from Dutch, Flemish and German public and private partners to share insight in ongoing research efforts and directions in this subject and explore opportunities for international collaboration, for instance in EU programs. We invite experts from Germany, The Netherlands and Flanders from the chemical sector or the energy sector active in electrification of the industry, Power-2-Heat, Power-2-Hydrogen, Power-2-Specialties or Power-2–Commodities to join this workshop.Participant can expect to learn more about the newest technologies and research projects in the area of renewable energy as well as to use the pre arranged meetings to meet the people from the sector, find potential partners and enlarge their networks.
