Tenerife: a fiscal and tax bridge between three continentsTenerife, the biggest of the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago fully integrated in the Fiscal Territory of the European Union, has been selected as the location for the XXI CONFERENCE OF THE FREE TRADE ZONES OF THE AMERICAS that will take place on 1, 2 and 3 November 2017, expanding therefore the borders of AZFA beyond America, as the meeting is being held at the opposite side of the Atlantic as sign of the possibilities of connecting with international markets that this association offers their affiliates. In only four years and still in an embryonic stage of infrastructure implementation, Tenerife Free Zone has gained significant importance in an international context, due to the unique benefits that meets as a European Free Zone. This question then emerges: what does Tenerife offer, so the location of a dominant American Conference is moved to Europe? The answer to this comes with the combination of the following factors:1. Tenerife is a natural platform between three continents –its geographically strategic location makes the island the only spot in Europe that implies the shortest and most direct route to America.2. Being a European port at the African coast leads to having assurance of legal security, services and infrastructures under European standards in a privileged situation with access to the African market.3. It counts on a Free Zone as a commerce driver element with flexibility and a wide availability of space.4. All this is complemented by a total compatibility of this Free Zone with the rest of the instruments of our Tax and Economic System –especially with the ZEC ZONE, which allows operators of particular economic activities developed in our Free Zone to pay corporate income taxes at a rate of 4%, under specific requirements of employment creation. As an outcome of these circumstances, Tenerife Free Zone leads a project of tricontinental connectivity so-called “CORREDOR FRANCO DEL ATÁNTICO MEDIO”, aiming to represent the inherent values and principles of the very AZFA Organization. In this sense, the project is based in the establishment of synergies and collaborative strategies between Ibero-American Free Zones with the final purpose of boosting the trade flows, businesses and value-added chains among the Free Zones in America, Europe, the Mediterranean and West Africa, driving their competitiveness and growth capability, as well as opening new entries to other segments in the global market. Thus, it has been considered convenient to celebrate the XXI CONFERENCE OF THE FREE ZONES OF THE AMERICAS in European territory. The EEN Canarias Consortium are organising this event.
