A French start-up has patented a process to make non-developable shapes with stiff and lightweight aluminum sandwich panel. This lightweight material made in aluminum honeycomb sandwich is limitless on design or shape, and so offers an alternative to composite parts. The SME is seeking industrial partners notably in transports sector (railways, automotive, aeronautics…), energy sector (wind turbines...) and other. Commercial agreements with Technical assistance are sought.
A French SME designs and manufactures technical parts for transportation industry on the basis of a patented technology that aims to act for 3 major challenges:

The SME is innovating in the field of all-aluminium honeycomb sandwich. Sandwich structure is widely used in transportation and with different skins. This technique consists in separating two skins with a core which creates a more rigid structure with more stiffness with the same mass and inversely, it can be lighter for the same resistance. So far, these structures were limited to single plane shapes. However through this technology it is possible to apply this technique to multiple plane shapes (see pictures).
Nowadays, the French SME is the only manufacturer capable to form sandwich with skin and honeycomb core in aluminum on complex shapes. Thus, the French technology provides a new alternative to composites. This enlarges the applications of this stiff and lightweight material for use in aeronautic, railway, rolling-stock for interiors, structural parts.
Indeed, the SME is already collaborating with different companies on applications such as: airplane and train’s environment of inside, car, bus and coach manufacturers, vertical wind turbine developers.

The SME is specialised in sizing and making sandwich material. It has the capability to work aluminum sandwich on almost any complex shapes in three dimensions. Its patented technology consists in forming skins and honeycomb core and then bounding them together. It brings new applications for this ultra-lightweight and ultra-resistant material.
The company is able to work with their partners, from prototype to large series, and adapts the process to keep it affordable.
