An Austrian company active in the field of monitoring and cleaning water network systems developed a cable-less TV-inspection of pipelines with integrated leak detection. The product allows the wireless and complete optical and acoustic inspection of pipelines without interrupting operation. A continuous inspection up to 50km length is possible. An Austrian SME researching and developing technologies for the water and waste water industry, produces technically innovative products for the benefit of this industry. The Austrian company has developed a cable-less TV-inspection of pipelines with integrated leak detection. Currently only wired TV-inspection for pipelines can be found on the market. The disadvantages of existing solutions are the limited range (max. 400 meters), the interrupting of operation especially in pressure applications, the need of digging up and accordingly of many access points.
In contrast to the existing systems, the new product allows complete optical and acoustic inspection of (e.g. transport) pipelines without interrupting operation. This procedure operates wirelessly, so that the continuous inspection of long sections up to 50km length is possible.
The product overcomes 90° bends and is used in pipelines from DN 100 to DN 3000 (diameter 1 to 3 meters) regardless of the material. It is suitable for use in hard-to-reach pipelines such as airports, highways, industrial or other access sensitive areas. Thanks to a pressure resistance of up to 100bar, the product can be even used the inspection of hydropower pipelines e.g. for commissioning inspections.
The device floats battery powered and cable-less in the pipeline fluid providing continuous data from inside in order to determine the inspected pipeline's condition without excavation or pipe cutting. The device is introduced by a kind of pig trap at existing T-pieces, at tanks or vents and can be retrieved for data analysis at a defined endpoint.
Due to the fact that GPS data is not available in the underground pipelines the analysis of the data is made after the removal of the device.
Sound recording for detection of the smallest leakages with pinpoint accuracy down to 10l/h at 5bar operating pressure. The device records structure-borne sounds directly at the leakage position regardless of the pipeline’s diameter and material.
This product won two innovation and research awards in Austria.
