A startup from northern Germany has developed an intelligent electric bicycle trailer for effortless transport of heavy loads by bike. The solution is designed for goods transport in densely populated urban areas. With the start of production the company seeks contacts with companies, cities and communities for commercial agreements with technical assistance and joint pilot projects.
Cycling is an efficient and emission-free alternative to driving a car, especially in the last mile delivery in densely populated urban areas. Delivery of packages, food and other bulky and heavy goods by bike in urban areas is faster than by car because traffic jams can be avoided and shortcuts reduce distances. There is always a parking slot right in front of the door and no air pollution is caused.
Nevertheless, bike delivery is limited by size and weight of freight carriers. In order to overcome these limitations, a startup from northern Germany developed an electric bicycle trailer. Their patent pending technology enables the trailer to be fully synchronized with the movement of the bike in front, e.g. it accelerates and brakes instantly with the bike. A cyclist does not feel any load and makes no additional effort to cycling with the trailer.
Thanks to a special coupling, the trailer can be connected to any bike on the seat post within a few seconds. There is no need for fixed installations on the bike. Inside of buildings and in pedestrian zones, the trailer can also be used as an electrical handcart.
A modular design allows to use the trailer with different transport-boxes. The company provides a range of standard transport-boxes, but also offers to design customised solutions based on specific needs.
The company developed and tested prototypes since 2016 and has started pilot production in 2018. The current trailer can carry 150kg freight, has a replaceable 48V Li-ion battery and runs 50-70km on one charge.
Companies as well as urban mobility projects are sought for a pilot implementation or commercial agreement. For example, these could be logistics companies, urban courier services, retailers (food, drinks, e-commerce), production facilities or municipalities offering urban mobility solutions. The startup is open to cooperate with partners worldwide but sets a focus on urban areas where cycling is a common and convenient way of transport. These could be e.g. the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
- Perfect solution for green and efficient last mile transport in urban areas.
- Easy to connect to any bike.
- Modular design, offering standard transport boxes and customised solutions.
- Carries up to 150kg freight by bike or as handcart without any effort.
Prototype has been tested in pilot-projects, pilot production started this year.
Patents are currently pending in Europe (EP) and Canada (CA).
Sought are companies or other institutions that would be interested to use this innovative transport opportunity.
These could be
- Companies dedicated to transport of freight in urban areas, such as logistics companies, urban courier services or retailers offering delivery services.
- Municipalities or urban mobility projects that would like to integrate the electric bike trailers to their offered transport solutions.
- Supermarkets or retailers intending to offer their clients this sustainable transport solution for rent.
The company is open to cooperate with partners worldwide, but sets a focus on urban areas where cycling is a common and convenient way of transport. These could be e.g. the Netherlands, Belgium and the Nordic countries.
