Italian branch of multinational company manufacturing elevators, escalators and moving walks is looking for a new solution to make a more sustainable and lighter elevator car. In particular the company is looking for a new panel filling material without polyurethane with isocyanates. Agreement sought is research cooperation, with the purpose to develop and finalize the new environmental legislation compliant material.
This request comes from the Italian branch of multinational company, word-leader in the market, manufacturing elevators, escalators and moving walks. The company is currently providing its products to the constructors of all major new buildings and skyscrapers in Milan. The company is very much concerned with environmental issues and in particular is positively responding to REACH regulation request to substitute dangerous substances. The company is now looking for a new solution to make a more environmentally sustainable and lighter elevator car.
Currently the company uses polyurethane with isocyanates, and is therefore looking for a material without restricted or SVHC (substance of very high concern) substances, with light weight and good price, suitable for automatized production. The company is looking for a partner that could provide a new panel filling material with functions explained in the technical specification section below. The company is interested in signing a research cooperation agreement with the partner to further perfectionate the new material in order to provide the evidences of compliance to environmental legal requirements and third party evidences of absence of restricted or sunset substances.
Main requirements for the panel filling material:
•Two main functions are: (sandwich structure basics)
-keep two sheet metals connected to each other
(has to act as adhesive)
-keep the distance between materials stable
•Light weight (Polyurethane’s weight today is 1,3g/cm3)
•Cost as low as possible (PU 4€/kg)
•Operation time has to be suitable for automatized production
The company is looking for a partner, possibly SME, operating in the materials sector, able to provide a new panel filling material – that may also require further research – to substitute polyurethane with isocyanates, that is presently employed by the company in elevator cars. The result of this cooperation should be a new material, compliant to environmental legal requirements and obtaining third party evidences of absence of restricted or sunset substances.
