A West-Slovakian company active in the field of water management and environmental protection has developed an inorganic composite sorbent for removal and/or immobilization of heavy metals and/or phosphates in contaminated solids and/or liquids. There have been granted a Slovak patent, European patent, Czech patent, Polish patent and Hungarian patent. This product is already manufactured in Slovakia. The company is looking for distributors.
The Slovakian company, which has developed above-mentioned product is active in the field of water works project management and environment protection. It performs various field of activities, including management and engineering during projects preparation and supervision during works realization connected to environment and water management, delivery of the inorganic composite sorbent, delivery of inorganic coagulant and organic flocculants suitable for water treatment and sludge/sediments dewatering.
The inorganic composite sorbent is a mixture of suitable natural raw material which are thermally and mechanically treated and finally bind to get a new composite material with high sorption cypacity.
The inorganic composite sorbent can be used as a filter body (matrix) material for removal of heavy metals from contaminated water or as an additive for immobilization of heavy metals in contaminated soil, sediment or sludge.
Application of the product: wastewater treatment, mine drainage treatment, sludge disposal, sediments disposal, rehabilitation of contaminated soil.
The composite sorbent is already manufactured in Slovakia. The company is looking for partners - distributors to sell this product. The help with the marketing of the product will also be welcomed.
Various sorbents functioning on the principle of cation exchange (ion exchangers) such as natural zeolites or alumino-silicates with a very low sorption capacity are known and commonly used in practice. These materials are mostly selective either to individual ions or to particular classes of ions, and their sorption capacity can be exhausted very quickly after reaching the equilibrium. Many natural materials functioning on principles of ion exchange, physical adsorption or chemisorption can be used only in a powder-like form. Finely milled, powdered organic materials, powdered coal, bentonite, various clays, natural zeolites, coal ashes or slugs are typical representatives of the latter class of sorbents. However, these materials cannot be directly used as a filter body (matrix), have a very low sorption capacity, and separation of these fine materials from contaminated water after treatment is complicated.
The usage of abovementioned inorganic composite sorbent as the filter body for removal of heavy metals from contaminated water has been successfully performed. It is used by firms in Belgium and in Slovakia. The less pH value of contaminated water the better results.
The usage of inorganic composite sorbent as the soil additive for heavy metals immobilization in contaminated soil has been successfully tested in Belgium where rehabilitation of sites near smelters with high contamination by heavy metals are under preparation.
The commercial production of the product.
The research of the product was partially financed by Slovak and Flanders governments.
There have been granted Slovak patent, European patent, Czech patent, Polish patent and Hungary patent.
Type of partner sought: company - industry
Activity: no preference and/or water management and environmental protection
Role of partner: The Slovak company is looking for a distributor of composite sorbert. The help with the marketing of the product would be welcomed.
