The company offers in vitro testing of drugs and xenobiotics with liver cells. Model systems comprise human and animal (beagle, cynomolgus, Göttingen minipig, rat, mice) hepatocytes, and cancer cell lines like HepG2. Assays include uptake and efflux transporter assays, cytochrome P450 induction and inhibition, metabolism, cytotoxicity and hepatotoxicity.
In addition, a panel of stable transfected HEK-293 (Human Embryonic Kidney) cells is available to assay the transport of a given substance by OATPs (Organic Anion Transporting Polypeptide), OCT (Organic Cation Transporter), ASBt (Apical Sodium Dependent Bile Acid Transporter) and NTCP (Na+/Taurocholate Cotransporting Polypeptide) transport proteins.

This means, that after the first round of incubation with the test item the hepatocytes are allowed to recover and may be used for several more experiments. Thereby, the sparse availability of human donors can be overcome and the costs for human liver cell cultures are reduced.
In addition, new pharmaceutical ingredients may be tested at different concentrations and in different combinations with other drugs and active compounds within the same hepatocyte culture. This will increase the safety of drug testing with humans.
