A UK company has launched the first truly global on-line service to help universities attract and recruit academic talent; researchers and lecturers. At the same time individual academics can use the service to find teaching and research positions abroad and build their own international academic career. They are offering a services agreement.
The company, based in Oxford and London, was established in 2012 to develop and commercialise this online solution as a ‘one-stop' location for universities to recruit from the global pool of academic talent.
When a university joins the platform all their job vacancies are automatically imported from their own website to the company's site (the automation service). Each job is checked and posted within 48 hours, using a continual service without the need for additional staff input from the university. Single and bundled job advertisements are also available at fixed fees.
Individual lecturers, professors, professional staff and researchers looking for new academic opportunities abroad can use the database free of charge.
All types of positions are advertised: PhD studentships, postdoctoral roles, teaching jobs at all levels and professorial appointments, right up to president/vice chancellor roles. Research driven companies wanting to reach an academic audience can also advertise on the platform.
Currently over 35 universities from ten countries have signed up for the full automation service. A further 150+ universities, higher education organisations and research companies from over 100 countries use the service to reach academic and research candidates.
Traffic and users in numbers:
- Candidates from 136 countries have responded to job ads
- The website is used by over 200 universities and other organisations from 120 countries
- Since launch 46,000 jobs on five continents have been advertised and at the moment (June 2015) there are just over 1,700 jobs advertised.
- The website draws over 100,000 monthly visitors.
The automated job posting system, offered under a services agreement, is best suited for universities with 10,000+ students with a particular interest in recruiting international academics.
There are other similar platforms, but this one is the only one without a country or regional bias. The platform ranks 1st in Africa and Australia, 2nd in Europe and 3rd in North America in terms of traffic and users.
The automation service offers significant cost and manpower savings for larger universities and helps smaller, growing universities with cost-effective recruitment from the widest global talent pool.
Larger universities with 10,000+ students are the main target group, however, there are options for smaller universities to benefit from the platform.
Universities should have an international recruitment policy or agenda, which could play a bigger role in Eastern/South Eastern Europe, but it is not restricted to any specific regions.
