An experienced small Dutch enterprise with 55 employees in environmental technology is looking to expand its activities within the water sector. The client wants to add technologies in the field of industrial desalination or either valuable, selective component recovery to their product portfolio and sell the product under license, in a joint venture or become a distributor for Europe.
The client, a water technology SME from The Netherlands, wants to acquire a technology for industrial desalination (e.g. concentration of saline streams) and selective component recovery and wants to act as turn-key equipment supplier. The technology should provide budgetary value for the end customer. Requirement set is that the time to market should be no longer than one year. The product should have a minimum value of 500k EUR. Application fields could be (oil and gas) produced water, industrial membrane applications, concentrate handling, digestate treatment, etc. Main features are that the solution is containerised, provide a proven track record and is scalable.
A clear and prosperous future, that is the client’s mission. The client is experienced in various environmental solutions such as conventional wastewater treatment, odour abatement and (bio)gas desulphurisation. The company exists for over 25 years. At the moment upgrading of biogas to natural gas quality is the main driver within the company. To balance the product portfolio, the client is interested to team up with a novel technology provider. The client wants to add the technologies to their product portfolio. The client wants to sell the product under license or become distributor of the technologies or products in Europe.
Collaboration can be done on various bases. Key is that both parties take risk and share profit. Most straight forward would be a license agreement with more extensive assistance on first projects. Collaboration would be starting a joint venture with shared investment capital and resources to develop the business in above described application fields. Finally a distribution model could work also, providing additional equipment around the product can be executed by the client.

Distribution services agreement: The client is open to work on a distributer base with a technology provider. The application should require significant value additional equipment in this case. It is open to work with medium to larger size companies, under the condition that exclusivity is granted for a relevant area.
Joint venture: Shared marketing and commercialisation efforts with a product in the indicated region can be offered by the client. The client has all required capabilities in-house (Engineering, project execution, back-office, sales force) however risk to develop the market should be shared.
