Back pain is the second highest cause of disability in western society with an estimated 250 million sufferers in the EU and US alone. Many of these cases are simple mechanical low back pain caused by factors such as poor posture, the occupation of the individual or their recreational activities.
The UK-based SME has designed and manufactured an innovative device for the relief of such lower back pain.The SME's device offers an easy to use, drug free and non-invasive way to relieve low back pain by using passive gravity assisted traction. This device underwent independent clinical trials in 2014 and was found to be significantly more effective than the treatment stated in current UK National Health Service standard guidelines set by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
The device is currently on the market in the UK and the SME is now looking for partners with expertise in the medical device field to provide commercialisation services, including but not limited to distribution, to help launch their device into new markets. The SME is looking to market their device into the manual healthcare professionals, or consumer health product sectors. The partnership is envisaged as commercial agency agreements and/or distribution services agreements with these partners.
