The Singapore company is a start-up specializing in creating raw materials from agriculture by-products. The company had identified two agriculture by-products; pineapple leaves and coconut husk that can be processed. Usually, coconut husk and pineapple leaves are considered agriculture waste that is discarded.
The Singapore company has developed a way to turn the coconut husk and pineapple leaves into natural fibre and natural polymer. The raw materials derived from agriculture waste are environmentally sustainable. This means that they are all-natural, biodegradable, and recyclable.
The application for these raw materials are very diverse and can be used in many different products such as textile, building materials, furniture/furnishing, automobile components, and sporting apparels.
Pineapple leaves can be processed into pineapple leaf fibre, which can be woven into clothing and apparel. Pineapple leaf fibre is a sheer stiff material that is light in weight and is used in sub-tropical climates. It is also a heavy-duty material that can be used as an alternative for leather.
For coconut husk, it can be processed into cocopeat, which has a variety of uses. The biggest use of cocopeat is to use it to grow plants. Although it is not fertile, cocopeat can absorb nutrients so that can be used for hydroponics. Cocopeat can also be made into materials for mattresses and sofas.
Another major usage for cocopeat is to be used as animal bedding. This is because of the fact that cocopeat can absorb animal excrement. This would be convenient for farmers as they would only need to dispose of the cocopeat.
The Singapore company is looking for European partners distributing products in the agriculture and fashion industry to distribute the products in Europe.
