General information

Short Summary
The cooperative hub aims to share knowledge with other cooperative groups, academic or research centres, and local governments, with the purpose of strengthening local and regional development initiatives and the creation of social market based on the values of the social and solidarity economy. They also seek to share projects in the areas of eco-social transition, responsible consumption, and support for cooperativism.
Full Description
ECOS SCCL is a cooperative group of 16 cooperative companies based in Barcelona, Catalonia, that offer an alternative to the current socio-economic model, based on the values of the Social and Solidarity Economy.
Over the last 15 years, a movement promoting a different way of consuming, saving, working and doing business has emerged and developed strongly in Catalonia as a civil society initiative.
One of the commitments of this socio-economic sector in Catalonia is to share resources, particularly workspaces, enabling economies of scale, access to other resources, promoting inter-cooperation dynamics and generating physical benchmarks that highlight and demonstrate the socio-economic alternatives that exist in our territories.
ECOS SCCL, as a cooperative hub in the city of Barcelona from 2011 to the present, has been one of the promoters of the Network of Cooperative Hubs and the Social and Solidarity Economy in Catalonia (2021) and the Spanish Network of Cooperative Hubs (2023).
With this proposal, we want to strengthen the Cooperative Hub and the Social and Solidarity Economy of the city of Barcelona by seeking inter-cooperative alliances with other European experiences. We are interested in sharing inter-cooperative strategies as a vector for growth, consolidation and generation of cooperative wealth, as governance models.
Furthermore, ECOS SCCL's partners have specialised knowledge in a wide range of services and are able to effectively support the eco-social transition of social and solidarity economy organisations and SMEs. For this reason, we have designed a comprehensive Eco-Social Transition Service for this type of organisation. We are interested in exploring inter-cooperative alliances with other European initiatives in the field of eco-social transition for SMEs.
Advantages and Innovations
ECOS SCCL has been building up experience since 2011 in generating territorialised cooperative inter-cooperation projects (Cooperative Hubs and cooperative ecosystems) and in offering comprehensive services to organisations in the field of eco-social transition.
We are a cooperative group with a wide range of knowledge and experience among our members:
• In administration and team management, we can support change in governance models.
• In production, we can help improve waste management, reduce consumption and switch to social market suppliers.
• In economic and financial management, we can promote the use of ethical and cooperative finance.
• In the commercial area, we can assist with communication methods and social market orientation.
• In logistics, we can contribute to the eco-design of spaces and the use of social market suppliers.
We are an active member of the Solidarity Economy Network of Catalonia, Reas – Alternative and Solidarity Economy Network of Spain, and FCTC – Federation of Worker Cooperatives of Catalonia.
