The Italian Research Centre from Lombardy is preparing a project idea for the Horizon Europe call HORIZON-CL5-2026-02-D3-02 “Competitiveness, energy security and integration aspects of advanced biofuels and renewable fuels of non-biological origin value chains” (submission deadline: February 2026).
The aim is to generate systemic knowledge on biofuels and RFNBOs, addressing competitiveness, supply chain integration, and long-term sustainability.
Key activities include:
- Mapping and analysing feedstock availability, supply chains, and conversion routes.
- Market and policy analysis to support standardization and regulation.
- Environmental and socio-economic assessments (LCA, carbon removal, climate resilience).
- Evaluation of integration pathways into energy and transport systems.
The Italian Research Centre has extensive competences in biofuels and RFNBOs research, including techno-economic analysis, LCA methodologies, regulatory frameworks, and sustainability assessments. Their laboratories and research teams support companies and institutions in validating innovative technologies, assessing system impacts, and generating evidence to inform policy and standardisation processes.
They are now seeking universities, RTOs, consultancies, and industry players with complementary expertise in system modelling, socio-economic assessments, energy security analysis, and market competitiveness. - Advantages and Innovations
