General information

Short Summary
The SME offers an advanced, field-validated modular photobioreactor
platform for on-site microalgae cultivation. The offer targets co-development pilots, joint deployments, and staged licensing for aquaculture, nutraceuticals, pigments, and wastewater valorization. The system is contamination-resilient, space-efficient, and delivered as Algae-as-a-Service with training, SOPs, and remote monitoring
Full Description
The offered technology of A-PBR is a modular, closed photobioreactor architecture comprising UV-sanitized water intake, nutrient dosing and nitrate control, CO₂ delivery and mixing, temperature management via external heat exchange loop, air filtration and gas-liquid transfer, online density monitoring, and harvest via continuous draw or batch centrifugation. Control is via industrial SCADA with a defined automation roadmap that connects sensors to dosing, gas, and harvest logic; manual override is available at every stage. The system ships with operator SOPs, contamination triage, and maintenance routines. Partners can target strains such Nannochloropsis for EPA-rich oils, pigments, proteins, or live paste, with post-harvest options from paste to drying depending on use case. Deployment models include site-hosted pilots, joint ventures for local markets, and staged licenses after on-site validation. Manufacturing can be localized through approved fabricators; The SME provides QA, commissioning, training, and ongoing remote support. Data rights and product specifications are defined per project, enabling comparative validation and scale-out across a distributed fleet.
Advantages and Innovations
The A-PBR is a closed, modular platform engineered for rapid deployment, high biosecurity, and predictable output. UV-guarded process water, controlled CO₂ injection, and automated dosing reduce contamination and human-error risk. Triangular panel geometry and optimized hydraulics achieve high light utilization while fitting in one quarter of the footprint of common alternatives, enabling urban or constrained sites. Field data from Cyprus show stable operation in suboptimal weather, with representative pilot output around 1.5 kg/day dry biomass per 5 m³ module, approximately 45 kg/month, with continuous or batch harvesting options. The platform is designed for distributed networks: units can be scaled up or down and repurposed across product lines. The commercial wrapper is AaaS: partners get a turnkey cultivation capability with SOPs, QA, operator training, and remote supervision; The SME retains the core know-how and iterates control logic toward AI-assisted optimization. This reduces partners’ CAPEX/learning-curve risk and accelerates time to validated product.
