General information
- Short Summary
- A medtech company based in Luxembourg has developed a device for determining the surface contour of a human back along the course of the spine. Together with a suitable software, it can evaluate the functional status of an individual's spine by means of its curvature in different upper body positions. Commercial agreements with technical assistance are sought.
- Full Description
-
The sensors in the hardware are used to determine the contour of the back in the area of the spine. For this purpose, the device, in which two wheels are arranged on a movable holder, is moved by hand along the low cervical spine (C7) up to the sacrum (S3).
The combination of the sensor data for inclination and acceleration relative to the position of the device in space, which is determined on the basis of detected wheel rotations, makes it possible to record the curvature of the back in the area of the spine.
The recorded data is transferred via BLE in real time to a suitable software for display and subsequent evaluation. The device is currently being registered as a class I medical accessory.
Depending on the software it is combined with, the solution can draw conclusions about the shape of the spine based on the surface contour of the back and can identify which favourable or unfavourable load conditions are present.
The device could be used for many other applications in different contexts such as for animals with larger spines, fitness, etc.
The Luxembourg-based company is open to discuss different kinds of collaboration agreements, such as buying ready-made devices to be used with the partner's own software system, manufacturing the device under license agreements, acquire the whole hardware and software as an OEM license product, etc. - Advantages and Innovations
-
- The hardware is lightweight, portable and does not require an external reference system.
- Setup, handling and correct positioning are fairly easy compared to optical/camera-based analyzers.
- The outer case is robust and elegantly shaped.
- The device comes with a certified lithium-polymer battery that guarantees long life and quick recharging. - Stage of Development
