General information

Short Summary
A french company wishes to develop new and innovative X-ray sterilisation technology with applications to medical devices/equipment. End users (Manufacturers of medical devices / Service companies that outsource the sterilisation of medical devices) are sought to validate the pilot incorporating technologies that improve the technical, energy and economic performance of sterilisation under technical agreement, R&D agreement or commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Full Description
A French company founded 40 years ago, designs electron accelerators whose properties enable applications in the fields of cables and wires, rubber and heat-shrinkable electrical components. The industrial equipment supplied by the company is renowned for its reliability and automation for powers ranging from 500 KeV to 5 MeV. Most of it incorporates exclusive solutions, with superior performance and processing speeds to its few competitors on the market (mainly Chinese, Russian, Korean and Japanese). They are active in environmental remediation and sterilisation, sanitation.

In this last sector, X-ray sterilisation technology is still new and little used (around ten solutions worldwide). However, it has greater penetration power than existing solutions (electron beams, Cobalt 60 irradiation, ethylene oxide or hydrogen peroxide). By modifying the DNA of the material it penetrates, it destroys the microbiome and thus sterilises the exposed material.

Today the company wishes to develop an industrial pilot incorporating technologies that improve the technical, energy and economic performance of sterilisation. To do so, the company plan to enter in a project with estimated duration is 36 months. If successful, it will enable the company to significantly increase its development, have a major environmental impact and, in a second phase, lead to a factory project to respond to market demand. The project might start in 2026 – end in 2029.

The return on investment, although proven, still needs to be improved and their management requires high-level skills.

To improve the entire process from generation to extraction of X-ray particles, the company must develop new building blocks :
• Transformer
• Conveyor system
• X-ray generator
• Beam shaping system

Partners from the 27 EU countries are sought.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
The company wishes to move on to the prototyping and demonstration phase of the system.
This project involves local and European subcontractors. They are looking for end users to validate the pilot.

The aim is to:
- Collect useable and relevant information’s and feedback from users
- Be able to show the added-value and long-term gains for the users
- To unlock technological barriers
