General information

Short Summary
The company develops and manufactures patented rapid explosive detection systems for military, EOD, police and homeland security applications. Its technology is already used by German security authorities, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service of the State Criminal Police, with further orders from the German Armed Forces and the Federal Criminal Police Office. They seek distributors, system integrators and defence partners.
Full Description
The SME is a German manufacturer of innovative rapid explosive detection systems for defence, law enforcement and homeland security applications. Founded as a spin-off of Kiel University, the company has successfully transferred more than a decade of internationally recognised research into commercially available products for operational users. The patented technology enables the rapid identification of military explosives, homemade explosives (HME) and explosive precursors directly in the field without laboratory infrastructure, electronic instruments or external power sources.
The product family delivers reliable results within approximately 15 seconds while remaining lightweight, highly sensitive and extremely easy to use. All reagents are integrated into the disposable test stick, making the system suitable for military operations, EOD missions, police deployments, border security, customs inspections, forensic investigations and critical infrastructure protection. The technology can also be deployed on robotic platforms operating in hazardous environments.
Unlike laboratory-based analytical methods, the solution is designed specifically for operational personnel who require immediate decision support in the field. The products provide a practical capability for the rapid detection of multiple classes of explosives while reducing operational risk and accelerating response times.
The technology has already gained significant operational and institutional recognition. The SME has been selected by NATO DIANA from nearly 4,000 international applicants, demonstrating the relevance of their technology for Allied defence and security capabilities. In addition, the products are already being used by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service of the State Criminal Police of Schleswig-Holstein. They have also received procurement orders from the German Armed Forces and the German Federal Criminal Police Office. Manufacturing is carried out in cooperation with a globally recognised producer of analytical products, while ongoing research and product development continues in collaboration with Kiel University. They also cooperate with industrial partners serving military and security markets.
To accelerate international market expansion, the SME is looking for experienced commercial and strategic cooperation partners, particularly organisations with established access to defence and public security procurement channels.
They are specifically interested in:
• Defence and homeland security distributors
• Wholesalers of EOD, IEDD and CBRN equipment
• Suppliers of police, military and tactical equipment
• Defence system integrators
• Manufacturers of EOD and explosive disposal equipment seeking complementary detection technologies
• Companies supplying Ministries of Defence, Ministries of Interior, police forces, customs authorities and border security organisations
• Organisations with established relationships to NATO procurement structures and allied armed forces
• Partners for joint demonstrations, operational evaluations and pilot deployments
• OEM and technology integration partners
Priority application areas include:
• Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)
• Counter-IED operations
• Military engineering
• Special Forces support
• Law enforcement
• Homeland Security
• Border protection
• Customs
• Critical infrastructure protection
• Defence procurement
They are interested in long-term commercial cooperation through distribution agreements, reseller partnerships, OEM integration, technology licensing and joint participation in defence procurement programmes. The objective is to establish trusted partnerships that enable security organisations worldwide to deploy fast, reliable and operationally proven explosive detection capabilities.
Advantages and Innovations
The company offers a unique combination of operational simplicity, high sensitivity and rapid field deployment that addresses critical capability gaps in explosive trace detection.
The patented technology enables the detection of military explosives, homemade explosives (HME) and explosive precursors within approximately 15 seconds without requiring electronic instruments, laboratory infrastructure or external power. The lightweight disposable test system is easy to operate, requires minimal training and is specifically designed for military, EOD, police, customs and homeland security personnel operating under demanding field conditions. The technology is suitable for use during counter-IED missions, post-blast investigations, border inspections, event security and forensic operations and can also be deployed on robotic platforms.
A further innovation is in development, which extends the operational capability of the detection platform. Instead of requiring direct contact with a suspicious sample, the product actively draws air through a replaceable sampling head and collects microscopic explosive particles directly onto the proprietary test pad. Even the smallest traces of explosives can trigger the highly sensitive colour reaction of the detection chemistry, providing reliable on-site results within seconds. The system integrates controlled airflow, integrated illumination and a rechargeable battery into a compact handheld device while continuing to use the proven disposable detection consumables.
The platform is scalable. Future versions will support interchangeable sampling modules for the detection of various chemical warfare agents, creating a versatile field detection system.
Compared with conventional trace detection systems, it offers a significantly lower-cost, maintenance-free and highly mobile solution that complements existing EOD and CBRN equipment while enabling rapid deployment wherever immediate decisions are required.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
The SME is seeking experienced commercial and technical partners with expertise in defence, homeland security, EOD, CBRN and law enforcement markets who can support the international deployment of the patented explosive detection technology.
The product portfolio consists of two complementary systems:
• One for rapid detection of homemade explosives (HME), including peroxide explosives (TATP, HMTD), chlorates and inorganic nitrates.
• A second, extending the detection capability to military explosives, including nitroaromatics, nitramines and organic nitrate explosives.
The technology detects a broad range of explosive substances with high analytical sensitivity, including:
• TATP: 40 ng
• HMTD: 50 ng
• Ammonium Nitrate (AN): 85 ng
• TNT: 115 ng
• DNT: 85 ng
• Tetryl: 85 ng
• HNS: 115 ng
• RDX (Hexogen): 275 ng
• HMX (Octogen): 1.2 µg
• PETN: 1.3 µg
• ETN: 1.5 µg
• Nitroglycerine (NG): 815 ng
• EGDN: 600 ng
The SME is looking for partners with expertise in:
• Distribution of defence, EOD, CBRN or tactical equipment
• Supply of military, police, border security or customs organisations
• Defence system integration and OEM solutions
• Robotics and unmanned systems for hazardous environments
• Field evaluation and operational testing
• Government procurement and framework contracts
• Joint participation in European and NATO defence programmes
Ideal partners already maintain established customer relationships with armed forces, police organisations, EOD units, special forces, civil protection agencies or ministries responsible for defence and homeland security and are interested in adding an innovative, field-proven explosive detection capability to their portfolio.
