The company, based in the south-west of Germany, collects chemicals intended for disposal from university laboratories, research institutes, and the pharmaceutical sector that still meet defined quality criteria. This service is provided for the institutions that donate the chemicals at more competitive price than offered by standard waste disposal companies. The collected substances are reintroduced into the laboratory cycle as "relab chemicals" and resold at reduced prices through the company’s sales partner.
All chemicals eligible for acceptance must have been stored in their original containers after opening, although unopened products are preferred, regardless of whether the retest date has already passed. For quality assurance purposes, containers that have already been opened are visually inspected upon receipt. Beside other chemicals, the main products which they accept in bigger quantities are amino acids, sodium carbonate and potassium carbonate.
Chemicals that cannot be accepted are
- Explosive, highly flammable, and highly toxic substances
- Solvents
- Contaminated chemicals
- Chemicals that must be kept refrigerated
In addition, the product data sheets are reviewed in advance to verify the chemical's stability.
In addition, reuse helps to reduce CO2 emissions, as the chemicals and thus the environment are spared the disposal method of incineration.
