General information

Short Summary
A Greek SME with over 30 years of experience in waterworks, flow control and pumping stations has developed a fully digital pilot system that replaces conventional mechanical pilots in control valves. The solution enables advanced parameterization, remote monitoring and automation for water, air and steam networks. The company seeks commercial agents and subcontracting partnerships.
Full Description
Control valves are widely used in municipal and industrial networks to regulate flow and pressure in water, air, steam and other fluid systems. Conventional control valve assemblies typically consist of a main valve and a mechanical pilot mechanism. The pilot regulates secondary flow to a piston or diaphragm chamber, enabling opening or closing of the main valve based on pressure conditions.
The Greek SME has developed a fully digital pilot system that replaces the traditional mechanical pilot mechanism with a programmable control unit. The system operates the main valve through software-controlled logic, using real-time data from field sensors. The solution can be applied to both new installations and retrofitted to existing valve infrastructure.
The programmable unit receives input from one or multiple sensors (e.g. pressure, flow or other process variables) and executes control algorithms to regulate the secondary chamber of the valve. By managing the addition or removal of fluid from the control chamber, the system adjusts the valve opening position with high precision. This enables accurate control of flow and pressure conditions within the network.
The solution is suitable for water distribution systems, pumping stations and industrial installations where stable regulation and adaptability are required. It supports remote configuration and integration with telemetry and SCADA ( Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, allowing operators to monitor performance and modify operating parameters in real time.
Because the system is software-driven, control logic can be customized to address specific operational conditions, such as filling and emptying phases, network segmentation or varying demand profiles. The architecture also enables the collection and analysis of operational data, supporting diagnostics and preventive maintenance.
The SME seeks:
• Commercial agents with knowledge of municipal and industrial fluid control markets to represent the product and related services.
• Industrial partners and contractors active in valve supply, installation or maintenance, for subcontracting cooperation.
Through these partnerships, the company aims to expand into new geographical markets, adapt the solution to additional valve models and manufacturers, and broaden its application library across different operational environments.
Advantages and Innovations
The innovation lies in transferring the core control function of the valve from a mechanical pilot mechanism to a programmable digital control module.
Key advantages include:
• Dynamic adjustment of opening and closing speed, reducing risks such as water hammer.
• High operational accuracy across the full valve range with digitally adjustable setpoints.
• Reduced sensitivity to impurities, scaling and mechanical wear compared to conventional pilot systems.
• Ability to combine multiple sensor inputs to implement advanced control strategies.
• Remote parameter modification and functional reconfiguration without mechanical intervention.
• Diagnostic capabilities covering valve performance, sizing verification and network operating conditions.
• Compatibility with telemetry and SCADA systems, enabling integration into wider infrastructure management frameworks.
• Potential implementation of flow estimation based on valve characteristics, reducing the need for additional instrumentation in specific configurations.
The system enhances operational flexibility while maintaining compatibility with a broad range of existing valve installations.

Partner Sought

Expected Role of a Partner
1. Commercial Agreement
The company seeks commercial agents or distributors active in the fields of water management, industrial fluid control, pumping stations or related infrastructure markets.
The partner is expected to:
• Promote and represent the digital pilot system and related services in the target territory.
• Identify and approach potential end-users, including municipal water utilities, industrial operators and engineering contractors.
• Assess local market needs and define application requirements in cooperation with the end-user and the SME.
• Support the technical specification process, including selection and adaptation to existing valve installations.
• Facilitate communication during project implementation.
• Provide, where possible, basic installation coordination and after-sales support.
Knowledge of control valves, hydraulic systems or industrial process regulation is required. Established contacts with water utilities, EPC contractors or industrial maintenance providers are considered an advantage.
The solution is suitable both for new installations and for retrofitting existing control valves, regardless of manufacturer, provided no exclusivity constraints apply

2. Outsourcing Agreement (Subcontracting)
The company also seeks cooperation with contractors, valve suppliers and maintenance companies that require a specialised digital control solution for their projects.
Under subcontracting arrangements, the SME can:
• Supply the digital pilot system integrated into the partner’s valve or project offering.
• Provide technical configuration tailored to project-specific operating conditions.
• Deliver training for installation, commissioning and maintenance.
• Offer remote technical support and troubleshooting.
• Assist in adapting the system to specific valve types or operational requirements.
Target partners include companies active in valve installation, water network maintenance, pumping station upgrades and industrial fluid systems. The collaboration may concern individual projects or longer-term framework cooperation.

The objective of both partnership types is to expand market access, broaden application deployment and adapt the solution to a wider range of valve configurations and operational environments.
