General information
- Short Summary
- A Hungarian R&D company offers active and solar-powered bird diverter systems for overhead transmission and distribution lines. The devices improve line visibility for birds in daylight and poor visibility conditions and can be installed by drone on live lines. The company seeks distributors, commercial agents, utilities and grid contractors under commercial agreements.
- Full Description
-
A Hungarian research and development company established in 1997 specialises in engineering, plastics and natural-science-based product development. It has developed active bird diverter systems intended to reduce bird collisions with overhead transmission and distribution lines, particularly at locations such as wetlands, Natura 2000 areas, river valleys, migratory routes and other low-visibility or high-risk corridors.
The offered product family includes an active version for phase conductors and a solar-powered version designed for overhead ground wires. Both versions combine large reflective elements and a perforated optical wing for daytime visibility with 360-degree UV-A near-light pulses for dawn, dusk, fog and other poor visibility conditions. The active version harvests energy from the electric field around the conductor and therefore requires no battery. The solar version can operate for up to 80 hours on a single charge.
A flexible, conductor-friendly connection system allows installation and removal using a specialised drone, including on energised lines. Current product documentation specifies connectors for 12-36 mm conductors and drone-based installation on live lines up to 400 kV. The system can be applied to new grid projects and to the retrofitting of existing overhead lines where biodiversity mitigation measures are required.
The company is seeking medium- to long-term commercial agreements with distributors, commercial agents, transmission and distribution system operators, electric utilities, engineering-procurement-construction contractors, line maintenance companies and specialist suppliers of grid or environmental protection equipment. Cooperation may include local market development, identification of suitable projects and collision hotspots, pilot implementation, tender participation, procurement, installation coordination and technical after-sales support. The Hungarian company can provide product documentation, technical training, line-specific placement recommendations and installation know-how. The objective is to establish recurring international deployment through partners with access to electricity-grid and biodiversity-protection projects. - Advantages and Innovations
-
• Active visibility in low-light and poor-weather conditions: the system supplements daytime reflective and silhouette-based visibility with 360-degree UV-A near-light pulses that are highly visible to birds but barely perceptible to people.
• Low-maintenance energy supply: the active version harvests energy from the electric field surrounding the conductor and does not require a battery; the solar version for ground wires can operate for up to 80 hours on one charge.
• Conductor-friendly and reusable attachment: the flexible non-metallic connector is designed to provide a secure grip without damaging the conductor and supports drone-assisted installation and removal, including on live lines up to 400 kV.
• Documented environmental resistance: the device remained securely attached in wind-tunnel testing at 140 km/h. The enclosure and clamp materials have also undergone UV-resistance, heat-ageing, rheological and mechanical testing.
• Electrical compatibility: corona and radio-interference testing was performed according to IEC 61284:1997; the measured radio interference remained below the stated permissible limit of 50 dBμV.
• Operational references: the company reports more than 1,000 units in operation. The supplied reference data includes 650 active and 240 solar units on the Hungarian transmission system operator's 400/220 kV network, with monitoring involving the Hungarian ornithological organisation and use within an EU LIFE conservation project.
• Intellectual property development: an international Patent Cooperation Treaty application process was initiated in October 2024. - Stage of Development

Partner Sought
- Expected Role of a Partner
-
The company seeks:
• Commercial partners, including distributors and commercial agents, with established contacts among transmission system operators, distribution system operators, electric utilities, grid engineering companies, line maintenance contractors, environmental consultancies and nature-conservation project owners. These partners are expected to introduce the product in their markets, identify relevant projects, support tendering and procurement, coordinate customer communication and provide first-line commercial support.
• Direct cooperation partners, including utilities, grid operators and engineering-procurement-construction contractors, that can identify collision hotspots, implement pilot installations, integrate the solution into biodiversity mitigation plans and include the device in recurring procurement or infrastructure projects.
Potential partners should have technical sales or project-delivery capabilities in electricity transmission and distribution, overhead-line accessories, environmental engineering or wildlife-protection solutions. Experience with public procurement, grid safety requirements and local environmental regulation is an advantage. Partners may be SMEs or large enterprises. - Type and Size of Partner
