The Irish SME offers the world’s smallest LDV (approx. 110×50×25 mm, ~300 g) integrating optics and signal processing into a single photonic chip. It combines portability with laboratory-grade performance, allowing vibration measurements from DC to 2.5 MHz, maximum velocity of 20 m/s, and displacement resolution down to the nanometer scale.
Its versatile lens system covers measurement distances from 0.025 m up to 100 m, with manual focusing for optimal signal collection. The device provides both digital (Ethernet) and analog (SMA) outputs, supports external trigger and synchronization, and can be networked for multi-point or large-scale structural monitoring.
This device can be easily embedded in robotic arms, UAVs, or automated test benches, enabling non-contact vibration sensing in scenarios where traditional LDVs are too large, heavy, or power-hungry. Typical applications include aerospace material testing, automotive NVH analysis, MEMS/semiconductor device characterization, ultrasonic vibration studies, structural health monitoring, and industrial quality control. - Advantages and Innovations
