General information
- Short Summary
-
A Latvian company is preparing EU projects in the field of advanced marine propulsion technologies.
The organisation is seeking an SME or industrial company established in EU that has developed an electric marine propulsion system, or a hybrid propulsion solution incorporating an electric drive, at minimum TRL 6.
The sought partner should be interested in further technical development, validation, industrialisation and commercialisation of its existing technology. - Full Description
-
A Latvian organisation experienced in European innovation and technology-development projects is building cooperation opportunities for future Horizon Europe proposals and other EU-funded projects in the field of advanced marine propulsion.
The organisation is looking for a manufacturer or technology owner established in the European Union that has already developed an electric marine propulsion system or a hybrid propulsion solution combining electric propulsion with another energy or power source.
The proposed propulsion technology must have reached at least Technology Readiness Level 6 and should already exist as a functional prototype, integrated system or pre-commercial product demonstrated in a relevant environment.
The sought solution may include:
* electric motors intended for marine propulsion;
* integrated electric propulsion systems;
* inboard or outboard electric propulsion;
* pod, shaft, waterjet or comparable propulsion configurations;
* motor controllers, power electronics and energy-management systems;
* battery-electric propulsion;
* series or parallel hybrid propulsion;
* range-extender solutions;
* regenerative or energy-recovery functions;
* modular propulsion systems suitable for integration into different marine platforms.
The system must be designed for, tested in, or capable of being adapted to the requirements of a marine environment, including exposure to moisture, saltwater, vibration, corrosion, temperature variation and demanding operational conditions.
The cooperation is not intended to support the creation of a completely new propulsion concept from the initial idea stage. The selected company should already own, manufacture or possess the legal right to develop and commercialise the proposed technology.
Potential cooperation activities may include:
* further development of an existing propulsion system;
* improvement of efficiency, reliability, power density or operational endurance;
* adaptation for additional marine configurations;
* integration of motors, batteries, power electronics and control systems;
* development or improvement of hybrid operating modes;
* optimisation of propulsion and energy-management software;
* validation and demonstration in relevant conditions;
* preparation for certification, industrialisation and wider market uptake.
The exact development activities and partner responsibilities will be defined jointly with the selected manufacturer under suitable Horizon Europe topics or other relevant EU funding opportunities.
Due to the commercially sensitive nature of the planned initiative, details concerning the wider project concept, cooperation structure, participating organisations and planned activities will not be disclosed publicly. - Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
-
The sought manufacturer should have:
* an existing electric marine propulsion or hybrid propulsion solution;
* minimum TRL 6;
* ownership of, or documented development and commercialisation rights to, the technology;
* internal engineering capacity to modify and improve the solution;
* a propulsion system designed for marine use or realistically adaptable to marine conditions;
* a credible pathway towards industrial production and commercial scale-up;
* capacity to participate in Horizon Europe or other EU-funded research, innovation or demonstration projects;
* willingness to contribute personnel, technical resources and, where required, co-financing.
The system may be intended for small, medium-sized or larger marine platforms.
No detailed power range or vessel category is prescribed at the public profile stage. - Stage of Development

- Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
- Goal 13: Climate Action
Partner Sought
- Expected Role of a Partner
-
The selected company is expected to:
* participate as an industrial project partner;
* provide an existing propulsion system as the basis for further development;
* define its technical and commercial development needs;
* carry out agreed engineering, integration and validation activities;
* contribute to system optimisation and industrialisation;
* provide the necessary technical documentation and maturity evidence;
* contribute to certification and market-readiness planning where relevant;
* participate actively in proposal preparation;
* provide the required administrative and financial information;
* contribute co-financing where required by the selected EU funding programme.
The organisation is not seeking consultants, distributors without technology-development rights or organisations offering only proposal-writing or networking services. - Type and Size of Partner
