General information

Short Summary
An established Italian manufacturer of precision CNC turned components, certified IATF 16949:2016, is seeking long-term partnerships with suppliers of metal bar stock and surface treatment services (such as zinc plating, galvanic treatments, anodizing, nickel plating, and other protective or decorative finishes). They require reliable, quality-driven partners to support increasing production volumes and stringent automotive-grade standards.
Full Description
Founded in 1938 and family-owned for three generations, the SME operates a modern 2,500 m² facility near Turin, Northern Italy. The core business is high-precision CNC turning and machining of custom components for automotive, railway, industrial automation, hydraulic, and agricultural machinery sectors.

The company, manufacturer of precision CNC turned components, certified IATF 16949:2016, is seeking long-term partnerships with suppliers of metal bar stock and surface treatment services (such as zinc plating, galvanic treatments, anodizing, nickel plating, and other protective or decorative finishes). They require reliable, quality-driven partners to support increasing production volumes and stringent automotive-grade standards. The IATF 16949 certification demands strict supplier qualification, full material traceability, and compliance with zero-defect principles.

Current Volumes & Growth:

- Annual bar stock consumption: 200–250 tons
- Projected growth: +15–20% annually over next 3 years
- Production range: ø4 mm to ø80 mm
- Materials: carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, aluminum alloys, brass.

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS

Primary Materials:

- Iron (S235JR, S355J2JC+C)
- Carbon & Alloy Steels (C45/C40, 20MnV6, 42CrMo4, 16MnCr5, 39NiCrMo3)
- Free-Cutting Steels
- Stainless Steels (AISI 303, 304/304L, 316/316L, 420, 440C)
- Aluminum Alloys (2011, 6061-T6, 6082-T6, 7075-T6)
- Brass (CW614N, CW617N, CuZn40Pb2)

Lengths: 3 m bars, surface finish as specified (bright drawn, peeled, ground).

Certificates: EN 10204 Type 3.1 mandatory.

SURFACE TREATMENT REQUIREMENTS

The SME seeks suppliers for:

- Zinc plating (electrolytic or static)
- Galvanic treatments
- Anodizing
- Passivation
- Chemical or electrolytic polishing
- Protective coatings (anti-corrosion, decorative finishes)
- Painting (cataphoresis + IC344)

Suppliers must ensure:

- ISO 9001:2015 certification (IATF 16949 preferred)
- Full traceability and compliance with automotive standards
- Capability for batch control, SPC, and documented quality procedures
- Certificates for each treatment process and compliance with RoHS/REACH

LOGISTICS & PARTNERSHIP EXPECTATIONS

- Delivery frequency: weekly or bi-weekly preferred
- Order sizes: 1–5 tons per material/diameter or treatment batch
- Packaging: damage-protected, labeled with grade, diameter, batch number
- Commercial terms: competitive pricing, quarterly adjustments, volume discounts

Advantages and Innovations
Stable, growing demand. With 87 years of history and IATF 16949:2016 certification, we offer predictable volumes and long‑term relationships—monthly/quarterly orders instead of sporadic buying.

Professional purchasing & fast decisions. Clear, complete specifications; documented POs; transparent communication; e‑invoicing; prompt payments (60–90 days).

Forecasting & planning. Rolling 3–6 month MES‑based forecasts, weekly/bi‑weekly schedules, and flexible models (JIT, VMI, consignment) to optimize inventory and capacity.

Quality partnership. Zero‑defect mindset, PPAP/SPC readiness, rapid NCR handling (<48h), shared root‑cause/corrective actions, and continuous improvement with measurable KPIs.

Streamlined documentation. EN 10204 3.1 for bar stock; full batch/melt traceability. For surface treatments: Certificates of Conformance (thickness, adhesion, corrosion resistance), RoHS/REACH compliance, and clear labeling/packaging to protect finishes.

Surface-treatment innovation. Collaborative design of finishing stacks (zinc, Zn‑Ni, trivalent chrome, nickel/chrome, tin; anodizing incl. hard/dyed; stainless passivation; chemical/electro‑polishing). Support for masking, cleanliness specs, and post‑treatment dimensional controls to guarantee assembly fit and cosmetic quality.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
- Metal bar stock producers/distributors/service centers for iron carbon/alloy steels, stainless steels, aluminum, and brass. All material needs to have CE material certificate.

- Surface‑treatment providers for zinc plating (electrolytic/hot‑dip), Zn‑Ni, nickel/chrome, tin plating, anodizing (incl. hard/dyed), stainless passivation, chemical/electro‑polishing, and protective/decorative coatings.

Core responsibilities required:

Quality & Certification
- Operate under ISO 900.
- Provide EN 10204 3.1 material certificates (bar stock) and Certificates of Conformance for each treatment batch (thickness, adhesion, corrosion resistance; RoHS/REACH compliance).
- Maintain full traceability (heat/batch, plating lot), SPC on key characteristics, and support PPAP when required.
- Technical Support & Co‑Engineering
- Advise on grade substitution, machinability, and finishing stacks to meet performance/cosmetic targets.
- Validate feasibility for tight tolerances after treatment (masking, dimensional shifts) and propose process controls to ensure assembly fit.

Logistics & Delivery Performance
- Commit to weekly/bi‑weekly schedules and reliable lead times; emergency support 3–5 days when feasible.
- Prepare packaging that prevents mechanical damage and finish contamination; clear labels (grade/diameter/lot/finish).
- Offer stocking/consignment/VMI for fast‑moving items to stabilize supply.

Documentation & Digital Integration
- Provide e‑documents (COC, test reports, SDS) and enable EDI/portal order/certificate exchange.
- Respond to RFQs and order acknowledgments within 72 hours; nominate a dedicated account/contact.

Cost & Commercials
- Maintain transparent pricing (surcharges/indexation), quarterly reviews, and volume discounts.
- Support cost‑reduction initiatives (yield optimization, setup reduction, bath life extension, energy savings).

Sustainability & Compliance
- Preffered alignment with ISO 14001 practices, low‑impact chemistries, waste minimization, and recyclable packaging.
- Proactively notify regulatory changes (e.g., substances restrictions) and provide compliance evidence.
- Audit‑readiness & Continuous Improvement
- Accept annual supplier audits; implement root cause/corrective actions within agreed timing.
