A Spanish cybersecurity SME has developed and validated a passive electromagnetic sensing layer for perimeter and critical-infrastructure protection. The system uses three monitor-mode antennas to listen for the wireless footprint of mobile devices (WiFi) and applies edge-AI behavioural analytics to detect and classify their presence, distance and behaviour in the approach zone of a protected site, before the target enters the visual field of cameras or physical sensors.
Key characteristics:
- 100% passive and low-observable (no transmission, no agent, no impact on existing networks).
- Privacy by design (edge anonymisation, no personal data stored, GDPR-compliant), edge-AI for anomalous-behaviour detection with configurable alerts, and fast plug-and-monitor installation with guided calibration.
- It complements existing physical security layers (cameras, radar, LiDAR, fence sensors) rather than replacing them: those layers detect the body. This system detects the device that body carries, earlier and no matter darkness or weather conditions.
Current status: a functional prototype has been validated at TRL4 in a real controlled environment, co-funded by ERDF/EU. An R&D roadmap is defined to mature the technology toward TRL5-6: multi-node correlation, X/Y and height-aware (Z) localisation, device fingerprinting to counter MAC-address randomisation, and detection of jamming/interference events as a pre-intrusion indicator.
The technology applies to protection of critical infrastructure (energy, transport, government and high-value sites), private security operations, and situational-awareness and surveillance systems.
The company offers this technology for R&D cooperation and joint European projects (Horizon Europe Cluster 3 — Civil Security for Society) as a technology partner and pilot provider, and for technical/commercial cooperation with system integrators. It seeks research organisations in RF localisation and sensor fusion, system integrators and C2/platform providers to integrate the sensing layer, and critical-infrastructure operators / end-users to define requirements and host pilots.

The developed system fills a gap left by current physical security layers, which detect the body only once it is already at the perimeter. Its novelty rests on three combined ideas:
(1) passive, device-centric sensing, it detects the wireless device the intruder carries, in the approach zone, before visual contact, with no emission and no network footprint.
(2) privacy-preserving persistent memory, pseudonymous device footprints held in an authorised, access-controlled knowledge base via keyed hashing and retention policy, enabling correlation over time and space without storing personal data.
(3) explainable behavioural risk signals, the edge engine scores dwell time, repeated presence and approach, flagging whether a footprint is new, recurring, anomalous or linked to a known risk pattern, keeping the human operator in control.
Economic benefits: earlier warning reduces response time and false alarms, a low-cost passive node reduces reliance on additional cameras and patrol staff, edge processing removes cloud dependency and lowers latency and operating cost, and GDPR-by-design removes a major adoption barrier for civil deployments. - Stage of Development
