General information

Short Summary
The Slovene company is building a European nanotech catalyst platform to reduce dependence on scarce and geopolitically concentrated critical raw materials used in decarbonisation technologies, starting with hydrogen and expanding into Power-to-X, green chemicals and industrial catalysis. It looks for partners through commercial, supplier and licencing agreements.
Full Description
The company emerged as a spin-out from the National Institute of Chemistry (NIC), Slovenia. It develops and scales next-generation catalyst materials that reduce critical raw-material dependency in clean-energy and chemical technologies. The company’s first commercial focus is hydrogen technologies – proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC), proton exchange membrane water electrolysers (PEMWE), and anion exchange membrane water electrolysers (AEMWE) – where catalyst performance, durability, platinum group metal (PGM) loading, and scale-up reproducibility directly determine system cost and deployment potential.
The broader value proposition is platform-based. The company is not limited to one catalyst chemistry, one metal, or one application. Its synthesis and scale-up know-how can be applied across precious metals, transition metals, alloys, oxides, and different support materials. This creates a pathway from hydrogen into adjacent clean-energy and industrial applications, including Power-to-X, green ammonia, green methanol, CCUS-linked electrochemical conversion, sustainable fuels, and broader heterogeneous catalysis.
For customers, the company provides three forms of value. First, it reduces or eliminates PGM use without sacrificing performance. Second, it accelerates catalyst development by customising materials directly around customer device requirements. Third, it de-risks industrial adoption by supplying reproducible pilot-scale batches with associated electrochemical, structural, and quality-control data. This makes the company a strategic enabling layer between raw-material suppliers, catalyst users, electrode producers, stack manufacturers, and OEMs.
In commercial terms, its products and platform can be monetised through paid validations, catalyst product sales, joint development agreements, strategic supply partnerships, licensing, and potential joint ventures with established PGM or chemical industry players. This gives the company a capital-efficient route to scale: the company develops the catalyst IP, data package, and production know-how, while strategic partners can support larger-scale manufacturing, metal supply, recycling, and global market access.
Advantages and Innovations
The key innovation is not one catalyst recipe, but a flexible and scalable nanotech catalyst platform that allows the company to design application-specific catalysts for different clean-energy and industrial processes that has been built on the foundation of >10 years of technical experience and track-record by the founding team as well as other core team members.
The secret is in the combination of advanced catalyst designs, scalable manufacturing IP and quality retention during scale-up. At the product level, we control critical catalyst features such as nanoparticle size, distribution, metal loading, alloy composition, crystal structure, (nano)particle location and interaction with engineered supports. This enables higher metal utilisation and lower PGM use without compromising performance and durability.
At the process level, the company has built a strong IP base around reproducible catalyst manufacturing/processing, scale-up, quality retention and quality control. This is protected by 4 patent families and nearly 50 trade secrets. The patents protect the next-generation catalyst products, while the trade secrets protect how we manufacture them reproducibly and transfer the technology toward industrial scale.
This is important because catalyst customers do not only need a better-performing material in the lab. They need a catalyst that is aligned with the specifications and requirements of their specific application, seamlessly integrated/designed-in, produced repeatedly with the same quality and eventually scaled through credible industrial partners. The company’s innovation solves exactly this gap between nanomaterial science and industrial catalyst deployment.
