General information
- Short Summary
- A UK software technology company providing desktop and cloud-based train driving simulators has recently developed a ground-breaking route simulator which utilises in-cab forward-facing video. The company is looking for partners who can supply in-cab forward-facing video footage (with audio) for European rail routes.
- Full Description
-
The UK company is a software technology business, developing state-of-the-art desktop training simulators. Their mission is to provide portable, scalable and cost-effective training solutions to regulated industries including rail. The UK company has a development team with significant experience in developing highly complex simulators based on serious games technology.
The UK company has developed a cloud-based train route simulator which uses in-cab forward-facing video with audio. The route simulator, which can be run on desktop, laptop or tablet, is used by qualified and trainee train drivers as part of their mandatory route learning qualification.
The route simulator requires the use/manipulation and integration of high-resolution forward-facing video captured in-cab with audio. To comply with data protection rules, voices of drivers captured in the forward-facing video will be removed and blurring software will be used to blur faces of passengers and station staff.
The UK company is seeking European suppliers in-cab forward-facing video footage with sound of train routes taken from the cab of the train. - Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
-
The supplier must be able to provide train in-cab forward-facing video which needs to be high quality (e.g. forward-facing video having the highest possible frame rate and resolution).
The captured forward-facing video must also contain audio, and it would be really advantageous to provide matching video of the train speedometer (i.e. so the UK company can determine the speed of the train when the forward-facing video was captured).
Technical requirements:
• Forward facing video taken from inside the train driver’s cab with the highest possible frame rate and resolution.
• This is typically captured using a GoPro camera which is located in a suction mount which is attached to the inside of the driver's cab – (4K resolution and the minimum frame rate should be 60 frames per second FPS).
• The forward-facing video must also contain audio - recording the sounds in synchronisation with the video.
• A variety of captured forward-facing video for specified routes should include various weather conditions (e.g. sunny/normal/rain) and differing time of day (e.g. day or night).
• Optional - to provide matching video of the train speedometer to record the speed of the train relative to the forward-facing video.
• Optional - a variety of weather conditions (e.g. sunny/normal/rain) and differing times of day (e.g. day or night).
Note: Any voices captured in the forward-facing video, (e.g. in-cab train driver talking), will be removed to comply with data protection rules. The UK company will also blur-out any faces of passengers/staff captured in the video to comply with data protection rules. - Stage of Development
- Available for demonstration
- Sustainable Development Goals
- Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
- Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
- Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
- IPR status
- IPR granted
- IPR notes
- The UK company fully owns the Intellectual Property for the Route Simulator product, which will use forward-facing video provided by the supplier. The UK company assumes the supplier holds the Intellectual Property for the forward-facing video, but the UK company will have the right to utilise and manipulate the supplied forward-facing video for our own purposes.
Partner Sought
- Expected Role of a Partner
-
The UK company is seeking a partner who can supply in-cab forward-facing video with highest possible frame rate and resolution. The forward-facing video should also contain captured audio, and it would be really advantageous to provide matching video of the train speedometer (i.e. so the UK company can determine the speed of the train when the forward-facing video was captured).
The UK company will assume that the supplier holds the IP for the captured forward-facing video, but the UK company will need to have a commercial agreement which allows it to use and manipulate the supplied forward-facing video. The forward-facing video will form part of our route simulator application, which the UK company fully own. The supplied forward-facing video will not entitle the supplier to any ownership/rights relating to our route simulator product.
The supplier of the videos should be familiar with the rail sector and ideally have relationships with European train operators and/or rail infrastructure owners.
The commercial agreement will also detail the financial terms for the supply of the ‘raw’ forward-facing video, which would be a flat fee (based on the forward-facing video file). - Type and Size of Partner
