Austrian companies search for solutions in additive manufacturing (AM). Potential partners can offer AM methods to manufacture products based on a metal-ceramic mix with the possibility to add diamond elements to the final product. Furthermore, they are interested in a function follows form approach. The companies are looking for start-ups to implement additive manufacturing solutions under technical cooperation agreement or commercial agreement with technical assistance.



As part of a regional program in Tyrol, three Austrian companies are looking for start-ups from Europe and beyond. The medium sized companies are manufactures of traditional industrial products such as tools, ductile cast iron systems and motor engines. They are looking for start-ups that can offer solutions in additive manufacturing with metals, ceramics and diamonds.

Traditional manufacturing processes such as press moulds are costly and time-consuming. They aiming to reduce the manufacturing costs especially for small series by using Additive Manufacturing (AM) methods. The fields of application range from rapid prototyping to segment production of small quantities in various forms.

Potential partners are sought that could offer additive manufacturing methods with metal and/or ceramic powders for the production of numerous products such as cutting, calibrating, polishing. The challenge is not so much a complex design as a mix of materials. Based on the metal-ceramic powder mix the proposed solution should include the possibility to add diamonds during the printing process.

Another application of an additive manufacturing method is sought in the field of functional design. According to the approach function follows form, the shape of the end product is developed automatically by entering product parameters and printed as a finished product.

The companies are open to any type of solution (proof of concept, prototype or already on the market) from European start-ups to implement additive manufacturing methods into their production process. Envisaged cooperation types are technical cooperation agreements or commercial agreements with technical assistance.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This technology request is part of a regional program to connect start-ups with industry and is published until the 17th of June 2019 (Deadline for EOIs). If a start-up does express interest and can offer a solution to the Austrian companies, it will be guided towards a selection process. Selected start ups will be invited (including a financial support) to a matching day from 9th to 10th of July where they can pitch their solutions directly to the companies in Austria.

The Austrian companies want to work with start-ups as equal partners, under shared IP conditions, in the form of a technical cooperation agreement or commercial agreement with technical assistance (depending on the Technology Readiness Level of the respective technology) to implement the technology into their production process.
