A Dutch SME started in 1936 and has developed into an international market player in the mixing and packing of powder ingredients for the food industry. They operate fully automated dynamic mixers that blend raw materials into a homogeneous mixture. The Dutch manufacturer is looking for partners that can design and develop a multi-deployable palletizing system. A commercial agreement with technical assistance is sought. This technology request is part of an open innovation challenge.

The Dutch SME has grown in more than 80 years from a local family business to an international market leader.

Last year the company made steps and plans to start up its first factory abroad. Currently a plant is being built in Spain and will be operational by mid-2020. In this way they will be able to serve a large part of the European market.

Since 2011 the company has an entirely new high-tech production facility. The factory now has fully automatic dynamic mixers that mix the accurately weighed raw materials into a homogeneous mixture. After the mixing process, the goods are packed and the end products tailored to the batch size that the customer requires. If needed the SME can take care of the purchase of the raw materials worldwide.
At present the production process is characterized by a short and highly flexible order processing with a large diversity (14,000) of end products. The end products are collected on more than 12 different pallet types and, depending on the recipe, around 10 different types of packaging (crates, boxes and bags). Because of this great variety, it is not possible to apply known techniques in the most labor-intensive part of the process; palletizing. The packaging varies in weight from 200 grams to 25 kg and with 10 different sizes. The current order size has an average of 120 bags with a weight of 12 kg. The duration of an order is on average 45 minutes. After this there is a changeover time of 15 to 20 minutes for the next order. 100 orders pass on 14 lines on one 8-hour shift.
In order to stay ahead in their markets the Dutch production company is looking for partners - within the frame of a commercial agreement with technical assistance - that can design, develop and supply them with a multi-deployable palletising system for various bags on various carriers. The SME is open for other types of cooperation types.

IMPORTANT: This Technology Request refers to an innovation challenge published on the internet platform. If an organization expresses interest before closing date, it will be guided towards this open innovation platform. After registration participants can browse free through other submissions and engage in discussions. All submissions will get feedback by the company on this open platform. The challenge closes on the 13 th of April, 2020. Mind that posts on this platform are not confidential.
Beside open discussions on the platform, sharing of confidential information will be made possible on demand. After that, the firm will select the SME's with whom they would like to cooperate in the development of a solution. Once the challenge is closed, Expressions of Interest for this technology request will be treated in the traditional way.
