The Dutch multinational has 2,200 employees to engineer and produce new technologies that help their customers deliver a cleaner future for mobility, water and energy. A number of 14 worldwide producing factories deliver solutions to the world’s leading Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
Their craftsmanship lies in reducing noise and exhaust emissions of cars and trucks and providing modern energy conversion system technologies for more efficient and cleaner energy production. They combine their knowledge of thermal behaviour of solid, gaseous and liquid media with high tech manufacturing. But the world is changing and demanding solutions in new fields contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are needed. To ensure that their future innovations can all be instrumental in realizing a cleaner, more sustainable future for the planet the company is building an R&D pipeline.
The in-house competences of the company include functional product development, featuring high-level competences in domains such as acoustics, thermal management, flow dynamics, quality control, mechanical engineering, emissions management and materials engineering.
Smart SMEs or start-ups can close the gap of knowledge of new technologies in the field of energy or water applications. Therefore the company is especially interested in innovations comprising:
1: Recovery of heat from waste water
The company is already experienced in recovering heat from exhaust gases and an expert in heat exchangers. They are interested in applications for recovery of thermal energy (heat and cold) from water –surface water (TES), wastewater (TEW) or drinking water (TED) – and its conversion to useful heat or cold (Aquathermy).
2: Purification of drinking water using heat or thermal processes
There are different ways to prepare drinking water. The company is interested in ways of water purification on energy or heat based treatment like for example vaporizing. The application should also be free of maintenance. They are not interested in purifying of water by using filters or other assets that need spare parts or maintenance.
3: Storage and converting of energy, using thermal processes
The company sees possibilities in contributing to the storage and transport of renewable energy using hydrogen in the supply chain. They are already experienced in pre-heating & post-combustion of fuel cells and fuel reforming from different fuels to H2 and are interested in new energy converting technologies where they can contribute.
The company can accelerate the upscaling of these innovations by bringing their expertise in development, manufacturing, their network and financial power. They are convinced that only in collaboration new products will emerge.
The innovative product with global market potential should already be verified by a launching customer and can be brought to the next stage by the requesting company. The types of cooperation proposed for joint development are a research cooperation agreement or a technical cooperation agreement.
