Description: 

The German SME offers innovative thin-film CVD coatings including pre-treatment, coating and quality management as well as the development of tailor-made coatings for complex metal products, e.g. heat exchangers, calibration gas bottles, silicon wafers, electronic components, sensor technology, additive (3D printed) parts, machine parts. In principle, the CVD coatings can be applied to any metal surface where corrosion protection, improved bonding, delayed deposit formation and prevention of metal leaching is required.

The company employs a patented CVD process to deposit high-quality silicon dioxide thin films at low temperatures (300 degrees Celsius) which enables the coating of low melting metals and metal alloys. The coatings ensure a high chemical and thermal resistance.

The SME possesses manufacturing capacities for components of various sizes (from millimeters up to more than 1 meter edge length) and order volumes (typically 10.000 to 100.000 medium sized parts per year). The company is currently investing in a second production plant.

Advantages & innovations

Cooperation plus value: 
While standard CVD processes operate at coating temperature of around 1000 degrees Celsius, the SEM’s CVD process runs at a very moderate process temperature of around 300 degrees Celsius. Consequently, almost all metals and metal alloys (also aluminium) can be coated without damaging the components. Further advantages of the process: - Internal coating: Surfaces with complex structures and geometries that are virtually unreachable for any other coating technology. - Modifiable: Chemical and thermal properties can be enhanced by the addition of chemical additives. - Keeping shape: No appreciable change in the component dimensions or thermal conductivity - film thicknesses are in the micrometre (µm) range. - Ultra strong connection: Chemical bonding of the coating to the surface.

The SME is seeking partnerships in the form of manufacturing agreements to take over the surface coating of the partner’s products with silicon dioxide. Concerning the production capacities, the SME already coats several thousand heat exchangers every year and the manufacturing capacities are continuously expanded. The SME is also willing to accept small order volumes. The SME is also looking forward to discussing demanding projects if the potential partner needs further technical development/solutions in the surface finishing with CVD. If the project is technically feasible, the SME offers tailor-made CVD solutions according to the demands of the partner.
