A German engineering SME exprienced in solar energy has developed a tracking technology for single axis PV trackers to reduce the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE). As the SME does not have sufficient capacities to produce the tracking technology themselves they look for a development partner to lead into a technology development, license or manufacturing agreement with a partner from the automotive or steel production sector experienced in mass manufacture of lightweight steel structures.



The German SME has more than 30 years experience in solar energy; is one of the leading technology engineering companies for concentrator and collector design, experts in structural engineering, optics, drive system, incl. receivers for CSP (Concentrating Solar Power) power plants. They have vast experience in parabolic trough collectors, heliostats and towers for tower solar power plants, point-focusing dish systems, concentrating photovoltaics (CPV), as well as non concentrating PV experience in 2-axes tracking, non tracking ground mounted systems. The company has been involved in over 60 solar projects, provided its technologies to about 20 CSP plants so far, engineering experience in 17 countries, over 4 continents, and they now want to enter the single axis PV tracker market with a proprietary design.

In 2018, the single-axis PV tracker market was over 20 GW, continuously growing.

The company already has extensive engineering and technology marketing experience from CSP (single axis trough collectors and dual-axes heliostats and dishes), but also recently gained new insight into the state-of-the-art of PV tracker technology as a professional hired consultancy, working as owner ‘s engineer for PV tracker review (structural integrity) for world-leading project developers. It is now looking for a manufacturing partner who is able to produce a newly developed PV tracker according to the specifications of the SME.

The new tracker system is more efficient than current cutting-edge technologies and aims at reducing Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) by cost reduction of the tracker cost ~ 10 %. This is rached by applying an innovative structural design, based on the relevant techno-economic analysis including actuators, structure and foundations. Along with the investment of the SME’s substantial industrial know-how and experience, valuable intellectual property rights will be filed in appropriate form (e.g. patent, utility model, etc.) and being shared with cooperative partner based on the agreed investment structure.

As the company does not have the capacities to produce the technology themselves, they are used to cooperate to develop market leading solar technologies. They are now looking for a new cooperation and development partner that supports with costing information, manufacturing know how, undertakes prototypes/pilot plants to lead into a successful mass market (technical cooperation or manufacturing agreement). Preferably, the partner should be from the automotive or steel production sector and have ambitions to become active/ or be already an active player in the PV international market (especially in Asia or Middle East).
The partner should already have developed and distributed commercial products and have a sales department with international sales experience.

The partner should also have the necessary production capacities and know-how in metal steel manufacture, they should be experienced in mass manufacture of lightweight steel structures and employ manufacturing technologies like laser-cutting and robot welding.

Moreover, they should be ready to perform multi-million dollar projects under tight schedules, but also willing to invest into technology development.

At a later stage a licence agreement would also be an option.
