Due to a constant rise in land and housing prices, there has been a surge in the demand house renovations and repairments. As house reconstruction is worth a big budget, rather than reconstructing houses or buildings, people chose to remodel old housings. This trend has caused an expansion in the remodeling market. With this shift in the consumers’ trend, expansion in the remodeling market will become common issue across the globe. However, there are limited number of skilled workers for this task.
Along with this trend, a Korean company developed a compact robotic construction device to tackle some of the problems/issues that the current remodeling sites are facing.
(Issue 1) In the case of high-rise buildings, where elevators are used to move necessary equipment, it was difficult to get big and heavy construction devices on the elevator. In order to carry out an indoor construction of high-rise buildings, it was necessary to improve the mobility and transportability of the equipment.
(Solution) The company’s robotic construction device is composed of individual modules, that can be separated into single module, weighing less than 250kg. With each part dismantled and reassembled, the mobility and transportability of the device increase, allowing the device to be used even in skyscrapers, to which conventional excavators were hard to be carried.
(Issue 2) Conventional excavator attachments are inconvenient at remodeling construction sites and cannot be used in various forms meeting different purposes at the work site.
(Solution 2) The company’s construction device has 3-linkage system with a quick coupler optimal for an indoor remodeling work. However, it can be reassembled with different power tools(modules) to suit user’s needs.
(Issue 3) In an enclosed space, conventional construction devices using diesel engine emit toxic smoke and produce loud noises. In order to decrease pollution emission, in the near future, the use of diesel engine will be illegal in an indoor work site.
(Solution) The company’s device uses dual electric power system of 220VAC plug-in and 72 battery. This power system, different form conventional construction devices, is company’s distinct patent-received technology, that allow the device to be used for 8 hours.
(Issue 4) Construction workers, especially driver or operators, are always exposed to high risk of construction safety accidents caused by many factors, including toxic gases, broken pieces, overturned equipment and crash.
(Solution) The company’s device can be operated through wireless remote control, securing workers’ personal safety.
Additionally, this remote-controlled robotic construction device is developed with a triad track system that can be driven and steered independently in omni-directional movement, in situ rotation, step and stairway travel (up to 0.8m door pass, 10-person elevator ride).
As a spin-off company from a national research institute in machinery and materials, the Korean company has been focusing on developing telematic solutions through integrations of central data centre and equipment with characteristics, such as self-driving, autonomous work, sensor-based equipment-control and etc.
Based on its technical background and competences, the company is looking for a distributor and/or commercial agent in construction, remodeling, interior design industry and etc, which desires to support the company enter the European market and create great synergy together.
