This Bulgarian research team has developed an electronic unit applicable for laser rangefinders. The team has expertise in R&D and engineering in defence technologies and in the space research domain.
The proposed rangefinder uses a laser beam to determine the distance to an object. The most common form of laser rangefinder operates on the time of flight principle by sending a laser pulse in a narrow beam towards the object and measuring the time taken by the pulse to be reflected off the target and returned to the sender. Due to the high speed of light, this technique may be not appropriate for high precision measurements, where triangulation and other techniques are often used.
The innovative product addresses the problems of precision and range i.e. it allows the measurement distance range to be from 50 to 20000 m, allowing to measure up to 10 targets in a straight line. The precision of the measurement is 5 m. The laser rangefinder has an integrated compass and clock (dd/mm/yyhh/min/sec). The remote control has a range of up to 30 m. The specialised device can store up to 200 targets. Measurements: up to 6 per minute. The working temperature is from - 50 C° to + 50 C°.
