In recent years a group of engineers in cooperation with the University of Wageningen adjusted the existing technique of Steam Explosion in such a way that hemp fibers after treatment could be spun on existing spinning equipment; this resulted in high quality textiles. The Dutch company used this technique for the production of industrial hemp to have textile fibers that can be used for the production of yarns and fabrics for clothing, household textiles, and furniture. Hempfibers can replace cotton. Cotton production is considered to be less sustainable because of the water usage, very high amounts of chemicals are used, and the use of large areas of land. Production of hemp has none of these issues. Hemp gives very strong fibers with high wearing comfort (breathing) in clothing. Thanks to the new hemp fiber-technology the environmental impact of the production of textile fabrics will drop dramatically in terms of less use of water, no use of pesticides or chemicals, high crop yield. To create market for more hemp fiber, the Dutch company is searching for a partnership with a spinning company, who wants to produce the novel hemp fibers and to spin them into fabrics in cooperation with the Dutch company. To produce hemp fiber to yarn and/or fabric is complicated. Therefore a good collaboration between the Dutch company and the spinning company including feedback and technical information is required. That is the reason why the Dutch company offers technical support, and is willing to license their technique to process the novel hemp fibers for the production of yarns. The potential partner should be prepared :
- To cooperate on a long term basis
- Is able to buy min 1000 kg hemp with a price of €4 for each kg.
