Road lighting plays a very important role in reducing accidents, and it’s been proven that good road lighting will significantly reduce accidents. On the other hand the amount of light required on a road to reveal objects i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and obstructions depends upon the amount or density of traffic, the speed of the traffic, weather conditions, particularities of the roads and if pedestrians are present – mixed usage areas.
In addition. operating costs and environmental impact are also important. Smart lighting control systems can provide energy efficiency and therefore savings by, for example, allowing switching or dimming of lamps at of-peak or night time situations.
In order to improve the energy efficiency in the network of regional roads and also in order to reduce the accidents rate, a Spanish public authority is looking for a Smart Lighting control system that would lead to solve the following problems: (1) high energy consumption levels and (2) insufficient lightning of the roads.
Therefore, the system should increase the energy efficiency of the different implemented lightning solutions through the implementation of intelligent based solutions. In particular, the control system should take into consideration the management of different technological solutions such as low consumption technologies, more efficient lighting management systems; new developments to adapt existing technologies to the needs and specific requirements of the network of regional roads, etc
The public authority is looking for research organizations or industries, preferable SMEs, working in the field of lighting systems, smart solutions and IT who are able to provide already available in the market solutions, prototypes or know how to reach a technical cooperation agreement, in order to develop, implement and/or adapt their technological solutions to the regional network of roads.
