An Spanish application-oriented research organization specialized in the development of technologies and solutions for original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and suppliers (TIER1) for transport and energy sectors is looking for further spreading its catalogue of technological services, specifically material card creation for simulation purposes.

Simulation-based design and development of components, as well as full products in transport and energy sectors, is becoming essential in order to shorten product development periods and detect errors at the first stage of product design, hence minimizing development costs and maximizing competitiveness in an always changing industrial environment. Nevertheless, this methodology can lead to wrong conclusions if the data that feed the simulation codes does not reach the necessary quality and accuracy levels.

To cover this market need, the specific technological solution offered is material card creation, including both development and its maintenance. Material cards are essentially datasets that gather and represent the mechanical behavior of a material. This material can be metallic, plastic or composite, as well as any variant of them such as foams, elastomers or fabrics.

The centre services encompass the whole value chain of the creation of material cards for simulation purposes, that is, experimental test, data processing with digital image correlation tools and creation and validation of the material card, thus ensuring trustworthiness and traceability of the resulting material card. Besides, close support and collaboration is provided to the customer for defining the technical requirements of the material card as well as validation criteria based on the final application of the material in a product or component.

The research centre counts with a dedicated research line focused on materials characterization and simulation, with more than a decade of experience in the field working with the some of the most important international OEM, TIER1 and material suppliers from transportation (mainly automotive and aeronautics) and energy sectors. The flexibility of the methodology developed allows creating both material cards for general purposes and tailor-made material cards for specific applications, considering dynamic behavior, temperature effects and/or failure.

The material cards created are able to describe the following material features for metallic,
plastic and composite materials for the main simulation codes used in industry and research
centres:
- Elasto-visco-plastic behavior
- Quasi-static and strain rate behavior (up to 1000 [1/s])
- Mechanical behavior under extreme temperature conditions (both cold and hot)
- Material damage and failure.
- Local phenomenon.
- Material behavior under different load cases: tensile, compression, biaxial, bending, shear,
etc.

The centre, motivated for spreading its services of material card creation for commercial simulation codes, is interested in developing commercial agency agreements, outsourcing agreements or subcontracting with industrial enterprises belonging to transportation and energy sectors, with the possibility of carrying out both testing and simulation activities depending on the partner needs in order to spreading its material card creation service. Nevertheless, research or academic institutions with specific needs on this field are also welcomed.
