The Turkish company established in 2016 via a grant awarded by the Turkish Scientific and Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) has been specializing in HVAC integrated facade designs that can easily benefit from renewable energy sources. The company mainly fosuses on smart facade solutions. Although, it has different names (Adaptive, Active, Responsive, Innovative, Climate etc.), Smart Facade can be defined as facades that can adapt to change outside air conditions and inside comfort requests by saving building energy consumption and developing a comfort level in an eco-friendly way.
The company possess a patented system "Smart Facade" which is an innovative curtain wall integrated with central heating, cooling and ventilation system.
In 2019, first pilot project working on a real-life environment was constructed in Ankara, Turkey. In the office building where the system was applied, no mechanical equipment has been used and the entire building heating/cooling/ventilation need was met by Smart Facade. The heat losses and gains of the office building have been reduced by approximately 50% compared to those of similar office buildings. The results of the project were published in an international symposium.
Some of the advantages of Smart Facade are as follows:
It is highly integrated façade which means that all the heating-cooling and ventilation function of the building fully integrated with façade. The design does not require larger space than conventional facade cladding systems. It avoids "sick building syndrome", which is frequently experienced in buildings with high ventilation requirement, by meeting the ventilation requirement through the cleanest and shortest ducts. PV panels and underground heat exchangers can be utilized more easily.
Although Smart Facade is a patented system, it is open to development and integration with other technologies in solar energy, energy storage, TEC(thermoelectric), heat pipe etc. It is also suitable for different types of buildings and structures such as technological greenhouses. In short, it is a system designed for energy efficient buildings (steel and aluminum curtain walls) that require high ventilation loads.
The company looks for partners under research or technical cooperation in order to innovate the product further such as transforming the energy efficient building into a net-zero energy building (NZEB) supported by renewable technologies and to commercialize it. The company also looks for investors under financial agreement.
