A UK chemical company is seeking man-made colours for consumer goods that are totally and quickly biodegradable in order to meet future sustainability concerns while delivering the required performance under research cooperation agreements or joint venture agreements.



A chemical company from the UK that is a market leader in the provision of innovative solutions to the consumer-packaged goods industries is currently focusing on colouring for consumer goods. In the past decade consumers have become more interested in environmental sustainability and their decisions are more influenced by products that are sustainable.

Colours make a great impact on the consumer’s decision making process while purchasing an article – from expensive cars to a pair of socks or a bottle of laundry detergent or hand soap.

Colours are used not only for aesthetics of the product but in many cases it delivers a functional benefit as well.

In the consumer-packaged goods industry, some natural colours can be an alternative sustainable solution over the synthetic colours particularly in relation to food and beverages.

Unfortunately, natural colours have many shortcomings when it comes to applications in laundry detergents and dishwashing detergents. Therefore a sustainable alternative colour is currently lacking to address the sustainable future of colours in this application. The company is seeking synthetic colours that are completely and rapidly biodegradable to deliver performance yet address the sustainability requirement.

The company is seeking potential partners either under a research cooperation agreement where the prospective partner already has technology that perhaps needs some additional funding or research or joint venture agreements where both companies can collaborate together to develop a new solution to this problem.
