Description: 

UK energy infrastructure provider for airports and seaports has received significant finance from the UK government and private investors to develop and install modular fuel conversion containers which convert ammonia into zero emissions hydrogen electric power on site at air and seaports or onboard hybrid-electric vehicles.

The objective of the company is to repurpose port infrastructure as an essential component of future smart cities in their drive towards zero-emissions, integrated and sustainable transportation solutions. Focusing upon a specific route development that already has infrastructure associated with maritime trade, the company addresses specific vehicle parameters and the ground-based infrastructure for H2 air and marine refuelling.

The proof-of-concept demonstrator will have commercial value as a mobile marine auxiliary power unit for vessels in ports (cold-harbouring) or at sea. When fully developed, the smart-multiport infrastructure will not only provide regional storage and delivery of H2 for aviation and marine users but can also be designed to provide the access to H2 refuelling for ground transportation users.

The modular hydrogen energy converters will be delivered, serviced, maintained and owned by the UK company and charged to the end user by the MWh of delivered power at sea or on land at a Port.

The containerised solution would integrate all the equipment to convert Ammonia into electric power onboard hybrid-electric vessels. The equipment the company is looking for already exists on the marketplace and are seeking manufacturers or suppliers who can provide one or more of these hard components: ammonia crackers, gas purifiers, pressure swing absorbers, heat exchangers, gas (ammonia/hydrogen) burners and ammonia tanks.

The UK company prefer supplier or manufacturing agreements with potential partners. However, at this stage, the type of commercial agreement is open to discussion.

The UK energy infrastructure provider for airports and seaports is seeking partnerships with manufacturers or suppliers who can provide one or more of these hard components: ammonia crackers, gas purifiers, pressure swing absorbers, heat exchangers, gas (ammonia/hydrogen) burners, ammonia tanks. Here are some specific requirements to take into consideration for the hard components listed below. 1) Gas-fired (using ammonia, hydrogen or both) furnace for ammonia decomposition of up to 1000Nm3/hr (or 760kg/hr) with residual ammonia of no more than 1000ppm and ideally less than 200ppm. 2) Equipment for the separation of hydrogen from nitrogen in a forming gas resulting from the decomposition of ammonia. Forming gas composition is approximately 1500Nm3/hr of hydrogen (or 135kg/hrH2) and 500Nm3/hr of nitrogen (or 625kg/hrN2). The recovery rate of the separation equipment shall be no less than 80%, ie. at least 108kgH2/hr shall be recovered. Following separation, the residual N2 concentration in H2 shall be no more than 100ppm. 3) Equipment for the purification of hydrogen at a flow of at least 108kgH2/hr from any residual ammonia gas. Residual ammonia concentration is expected to be no more than 1000ppm prior to purification and must be less than 0.1ppm after purification. The purification of hydrogen from residual ammonia does not result is the loss of more than 5% of the Hydrogen. 4) Heat exchangers for the recovery of heat from gases (pure ammonia, hydrogen/nitrogen, pure hydrogen) up to 500kW per 100kgH2/hr produced. The ideal manufacturer or supplier will be able to supply/develop bespoke compact equipment to produce up to 100kg/hr of pure hydrogen gas from a feedstock of anhydrous ammonia decomposed via cracking and purified via pressure swing adsorption or similar.

The partner search is not geographically restricted. Open to expressions of interest from all EEN member countries. The partner type and size is open, but ideally SMEs, large and MNEs. The types of partnership considered are manufacturing or supplier agreements. However, the UK company is open to discussion.
