Summary

Summary:
A university from Latvia has developed a system for unassisted teaching and rehabilitation of talking skills for patients with speech disorders. The university is offering commercial agreement with technical assistance to parties interested in adapting the therapy to local needs and offering to their clients.

Description

Description:

In case of dysarthria people cannot articulate words normally because part of the nervous system that controls muscles used in speech is damaged. Rehabilitation goals depend on the cause of the dysarthria. Often the situation can be improved with speech therapy. Usually in the speech therapy a professional therapist guide through exercises that work to strengthen the muscles of face and throat.
As an alternative a technical university from Latvia has developed a method of unassisted teaching and rehabilitation of talking ability for patients with speech disorders. The technology is based on the correction of pronunciation problems. The system operates with two databases. The first one – the patient’s performance database gathers information on regular basis by recording and processing video files of patient's speech signals and corresponding letter signs in a photo or video format simultaneously comparing it with the face or mouth muscle movements and mimic. The other database stores standard speech signals with letter signs and mimic image visualizations. The software compares the records of the patient to the reference visualization and measure their coincidence degree, that is displayed in numerical values of correlation level.
The university offers commercial agreement with technical assistance to any interested party. It is expected that the partner will adapt the system to local conditions and will offer to their clients.
