Dutch telecom company with various networks providing telecom, IT and television services is looking for technology to reduce and monitor energy of software applications and hardware. For example by making the data traffic and usage responsive or using more energy efficient software coding. The company aims to set up a cooperative pilot project to demonstrate the potential of the technology within the framework of a services agreement. This challenge is published on an open innovation platform.
The rapidly growing amount of data traffic of users has a strong effect on the software and application landscape. The energy usage of the telecom industry has become substantial. To contribute to the reduction of CO2 this provider is already making a strong effort to reduce its energy usage. Next to rationalization, steps have already been taken by reusing residual heat for heating of buildings in the surroundings of their data centers. And now the company is looking for next steps to take.
Within telecom networks the two main energy consuming parts are the network infrastructure and the IT platforms. The energy consumption of IT platforms is not influenced by the amount of data traffic handled. Given that networks are becoming more and more software driven through virtualization the working with and creating of more energy efficient applications and software is key in reducing the energy footprint.
For this the company is interested in technology to create better insights in energy consumption of their software applications and server level. In addition to this it is also looking for technology to actively manage and reduce the energy consumption of the network and IT platforms.
The company aims to set up a cooperative pilot project to demonstrate the potential of the technology within the framework of a services agreement.
