Sorry, this partnering opportunity is closed.
The Dutch multinational specializes in built environment and sees a large role for low temperature heat networks in the energy transition. Therefore they are looking for partners to realize a pilot with cooperation partners and municipalities with the opportunity for setting a standard in a test environment. A technical or research cooperation agreement is proposed to form a consortium to develop technical concepts. This request refers to an open innovation platform.
The company is a worldwide operating and leading designing and consultancy organization in natural and built environment. As their mission is improving quality of life, the energy transition fits perfectly in their mission.
In the Netherlands buildings are being disconnected from the natural gas grid whilst at the same time municipalities are supposed to have their energy strategies ready on a district level in 2021. At the moment there are three alternatives to the gas network: all electric (very expensive) and a high temperature heat network (needs a large market). Low temperature heat networks however, have lower costs and might not need the large market of the high temperature heat districts.
The company believes low temperature heating can be a solution for an affordable and phased rollout of a heat network, so building owners do not have to wait for government regulation and subsidies. But there are a lot of challenges to make sure all possibilities are utilized.
The company is looking for a modular infrastructure with a positive business case, looking for modular heat storage (Aquifer thermal energy storage is not flexible enough), and measuring techniques for demand and supply.
Therefore the company needs a broad range of partners with different areas of expertise to develop these networks and to set up pilot projects together in energy transition programs.
The organizations the company is looking for are interested in:
- participating in a consortium together with cooperation partners and municipalities
- to realize a prototype or pilot
- with the opportunity for setting a standard
- access to a support and a test environment.
Cooperation might take place in the frame of a technical or research cooperation agreement, but other cooperation agreements could also be discussed later.
IMPORTANT: This technology request refers to an innovation challenge published on an open internet platform. If an organization expresses interest before the closing date, it will be guided towards this open innovation platform. After registration participants can browse free through other submissions and engage in discussions. All submissions will get feedback by the company on this open platform. The challenge closes on December 1st , 2019. Mind that posts on this platform are not confidential. Beside open discussions on the platform, sharing of confidential information will be made possible on demand. After that, the firm will select the organizations with whom they would like to cooperate in the development of a solution. Once the challenge is closed, expressions of interest for this technology request will be treated in the traditional way.
The company is looking for organizations that want to contribute to the energy transition and in particular low temperature heat networks by participation in a network of cooperation partners and municipalities. They are looking for partnerships with different fields of expertise to develop these networks and to set up pilot projects together.
Areas of expertise are:
In order to answer these questions:
- How to build a positive business case that will persuade people to participate? Is a flexible price market needed (maybe with the use of blockchain?)?
- What kind of partners do they need to design, build, maintain, finance and operate the heat network?
- Does it have to be regulated or is it up to the market?
- What organizational model needs to be implemented and does any regulation has to be changed to let governmental organizations participate in this heating/cooling exchange?
The company is looking for organizations, especially start-ups or scale-ups, interested in participating in a consortium to realize a prototype or pilot, together with cooperation partners and municipalities.
The partner could probably contribute to setting a standard and get introduced in an interesting network of cooperation partners and municipalities, which can also be used to spread the concept further if it is demonstrably effective and get access to a support and a test environment.
Cooperation might take place in the frame of a technical or research cooperation agreement, but other cooperation agreements could also be discussed later. Interested parties are invited to establish first contact via the open innovation platform.
