A Ukrainian company has developed technology for speeded up washing of sugar beet. Vibro-resonance washers were created and tested under industrial conditions. The proposed technology enables to reduce the time of washing the beet and the losses of sugar in wash water by dozens of times. A working installment is available for demonstration.
Manufacturers of equipment for sugar industry are sought for various possible types of cooperation.
One of the principle problems of beet washing is a long period of staying of beetroots in water in the process of washing. Thus, for example, if roots stay in large-capacity washers of log or drum type for 10-20 minutes, it causes sugar losses with washing water up to 0.4-0.5%. The developed technology speeds up the process of washing 10-15 times, to 30-60 seconds, and enables to reduce sugar losses in washing. For the implementation of this technology, cavitation impulse self-cleaning atomizers were developed and mounted not only in the washer itself, but also in fluid-forcing nozzles for beet fluming. Besides, in the hydrodynamic beet washers themselves, a new physical phenomenon was used in which resonance oscillations arise in the water-beet mixture at certain frequencies and amplitudes (depending on the size of the circulation chamber and the bulk of the water-beet mixture). The intensity of influence of resonance oscillations of water-beet mixture on roots is controlled by special 3D-deformable bodies filled with gas, i. e. specially controllable air castor.
Depending on the degree of dirtiness of beet, resonance frequency and amplitude of oscillations giving maximum washing efficiency up to 99% for the washing time (10-30 seconds) are regulated automatically. The duration of staying of beet in the circulation chamber of the vibro-resonance washer is regulated by the velocity of the beet supply by the hydro-transporter and the velocity of motion of the beet-water mixture in the circulation chamber.
The vibro-resonance beet washers were developed for sugar plants producing 1.5, 3.0 to 6.0 thousands tons of beet per day.

The application of vibro-resonance apparatuses for sugar beet washing enables:
1. to reduce the time of beet washing by dozens of times (to 30-60 sec.);
2. to reduce corresponding losses of sugar with wash water;
3. to achieve the effect of beet cleaning up to 99%.
Cavitation impulse self-cleaning atomizers mounted not only in the washer itself, but also in fluid-forcing nozzles for beet fluming are developed. For regulation of the intensity of influence of resonance oscillations of water-beet mixture on root, special 3D-deformable bodies (air castors) were developed.
The method and the applied new technical solutions are protected by patents and know-how.
