A German chemical company is seeking multifunctional personal care ingredients which apart from delivering its primary function also assists in the preservation of a cosmetic formulation. The company is open to partners worldwide and partnership in the frame of a research cooperation, technical cooperation, commercial Agreement with technical assistance, licensing or joint venture, however the ingredient should be at least validated in relevant environment.
A German multinational enterprise from the chemistry sector is looking to improve existing personal care products and to develop new ones.
Preservatives are added to personal care product to control microbial spoilage, extend product shelf life and prevent infection in humans. Microbiological control is critical in the beauty industry because microbial spoilage will cause product degradation, leading to potential human health hazard. In recent years, due to growing human health concerns with traditional preservatives like paraben and isothiazolinones (MIT/CMIT), consumers are drawn toward ‘preservative-free’ or ‘self-preserving’ personal care formulations. The solution thus should preferably be biodegradable and derived from renewable/natural resources to comply with the increasing trend for sustainable solutions.
Here, the company is seeking multifunctional personal care ingredients which apart from delivering its primary property also exhibits a certain level of antimicrobial activity. The ideal ingredients can be emollients, surfactants, rheology modifiers, solubilizer or bioactive compounds/extracts that can also control microbial spoilage for skin and haircare applications.
The enterprise has experience with cooperation partners worldwide and is thus open to suggestions from any country. Cooperation with partners would be in the frame of a research cooperation, technical cooperation, commercial agreement with technical assistance, licensing or joint venture, depending on development level and existing production capacity.
While a research cooperation would advance the target product from e.g. TRL 5 to market readiness and a technical cooperation would support the technical scale-up capabilities of the partner, a commercial agreement with technical assistance would enable the German company to set up the technology, licensing would allow the company to set up the process on its own, and a joint venture might be a mutually beneficial option, if industrial scale production requires large invests. The company´s aim is industrial scale production for its own products, thus purely academic approaches are excluded and samples of minimum 50g for performance testing should not be a problem.
Molecules/compounds/material that show a certain level of broad spectrum antimicrobial activity against gram positive and gram negative bacteria, yeast and mold. Ideally the ingredient can be described by an existing INCI and already has an additional primary function in a cosmetic formulation e.g. Viscosity modification, Emollient, Chelating agent, Emulsifier, etc.
The technology should be at least validated in relevant environment (TRL 5 and above), preferably biodegradable and derived from renewable/natural resources to comply with the increasing trend for sustainable solutions.
The proposed solution should also meet the following criteria:
• stable at broad pH range 5-8, preferably 2-11
• non-toxic to humans and environment
• shelf life of 2 years
• samples of minimum 50g are requested for performance testing.
No interest in purely academic approach in an early stage. All late stages (e.g. already on market, available for demonstration) welcome.
Handling of current and future IPR will be explored depending on the partnership model.
The company is open to partnerships worldwide in the frame of a research cooperation, technical cooperation, commercial agreement with technical assistance, licensing or joint venture.
