Researchers of a German university invented an arch branched laser-assisted endovascular stent-graft system. This new approach of coupling stent-grafts as a stent-graft system can be used in laser-assisted treatment of aortic arch aneurysms and arch dissections under neuroprotection using an extracorporeal shunt device. The university offers its patent for a license agreement worldwide.
A group of researchers of a German university developed a method that relates to a stent-graft system with a diameter-related expandable first stent graft and a coupled second stent graft equipped with standing barbs. The first stent graft is utilized in areas of tubular network structure. This circular mesh can be reached in an expanded mode of the first stent-graft whereby the second stent-graft can be coupled in the expanded mode with the first one using an extracorporeal shunt device.
The method is very flexible and offers an accurate placement and controlled deployment of the stent-graft. Contrary to the usual practise of open surgery to help protect the aneurysm from rupturing, the new method offers an advanced approach by using laser-assisted extracorporeal shunt device for the treatment of aortic arch aneurysms and arch dissections under neuroprotection. Moreover, the arch branched laser-assisted endovascular stent-graft system minimizes the recovery time of the patient.
A patent is granted for this new methodology in Germany and applications are waiting to be granted for EP and United States. To open up the market for the stent-graft system the university offers its invention for a license agreement in Europe and beyond.
