In 2009, the idea was born to develop a clinostat for trees. The company wanted to find out if it was possible for trees to grow horizontally. They have tested many different types of plants in various feasibility studies and now know that trees can grow not only vertically but horizontally as well. From then the product was developed and has been refined to be a high-tech plant care system.
The company’s founder who is also biologist carried out an experiment at the University of Hohenheim, in Germany, during which different plants were attached in pots to a disc that rotated horizontally. In that way light and gravity were no longer having effect on the plant from a single direction. To change the direction of growth, the most important thing to know is which elements affect the plant stability. Besides gravitation, light and temperature, the continual rotation also affects the plant stability.
A tree that grows horizontally has to endure a constant push and pull in various directions, this can completely alter the properties of the wood. Just imagine how this eye-catching method changes the aspects of urban areas.
The patented system includes an integrated irrigation system and multiple sensors to permanently and automatically nurture the plants.
The sensors are connected to embedded software giving insights on plant specific parameters. With the development of technical products and procedures to permanently integrate plants and other botanical components into so far unused dimensions and urban spaces the company is in tune with the times.
The marketing strategy of the company intends generally to cooperate with distribution partners to enter the international market. While the company itself intends to focus on the development and improvement of green products and processes the commercialisation is attended to be done by experts that know the national and international markets best.
Exchange and feedback allows to adapt the products to different and individual needs in foreign countries and climatic conditions to meet customers’ demands. Cooperation partners get the chance to extend their product range and to offer unique solutions for greening projects. Right now, the costs of one product are very high (several thousand Euro per m2 of plantation), but the costs are on decrease as the company has several orders.
In general, the product of the German company could be used worldwide, but is mainly interesting in areas with a high population density and a high level of air pollution (e.g. capital cities or cities in Asia or in the Gulf region).
