Our group of experts in Energy Intensive Industries

Who are we?

The Group of Experts in Energy-Intensive Industries in the Enterprise Europe Network focuses on fostering the sustainability and competitiveness of industries that consume significant energy resources, such as steel, chemicals, and cement. Comprising a network of professionals, specialists, and industry practitioners, our group is committed to promoting collaboration, innovation, and sustainable practices across Europe. This group of experts covers chemicals, steel, paper, plastics, mining, extraction and quarrying, refineries, cement, wood, rubber, non-ferrous metals, glass, ceramics. These industries supply intermediate products to each other and to many downstream sectors of the economy, are closely integrated with energy providers as well as with the waste and recycling industries due to their need for secondary raw materials.

How we work

We operate through a cohesive network of expert advisors who foster connections between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the resources they need to thrive. By organising both online forums and on-site meetings, we maintain a robust dialogue among our members, encourage active participation, and facilitate the exchange of best practices. We leverage a rich mapping of stakeholders and support services from the regional level to deliver comprehensive insights into initiatives focused on scaling up and sustainability.

Initiatives and Events

Decarbonisation and Competitiveness

Central to our agenda are activities supporting the transition towards decarbonisation and enhancing competitiveness through initiatives like the Clean Industrial Deal. Our efforts aim to aid industries in achieving efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

Task Force and Workshops

A dedicated task force works collaboratively to address common challenges and spearhead workshops and online meetings, fostering knowledge sharing and strategic alignment within the energy-intensive sectors.

Conferences and Events

We host and participate in pivotal events, such as the annual conference and EU cluster calls focusing on critical themes like Net-zero emission. These events provide opportunities for SMEs to engage in B2B interactions and explore synergies across related industries.

Incorporation of the Biotech Hub

In addition to our primary focus, we support the broader ecosystem's initiatives, such as the creation of the Biotech Hub. This innovative tool will aid biotech companies in navigating regulatory landscapes and scaling their operations, launched in January 2025.

The Group of Experts in Energy-Intensive Industries is dedicated to leading the push for sustainable industrial practices, helping to create a resilient and competitive future for energy-intensive sectors in Europe.
