Serbia is a key country for Türkiye in terms of both bilateral economic relations and the access of Turkish products to the EU. Since 2015, the reciprocal import of industrial products has been duty-free, as required by the Free Trade Agreement signed between the two countries in 2010. While customs duties remain for agricultural products, the “Most Favored Nation” (MFA) status is applied to certain products. The agreement includes regulations on technical barriers to trade, exchange of concessions for agricultural products, animal and plant health measures, internal taxation, structural adjustment, dumping, emergencies, state monopolies, safeguard measures, payments, rules of origin, state aid, intellectual, industrial and commercial property rights, public procurement and institutional provisions. The FTA between the two countries was revised in 2018, adding trade in services to its scope and expanding agricultural concessions for both parties. The revised FTA entered into force on June 1, 2019.
The products we export to Serbia include fabric, non-electrical machines, nuts, knitted goods, fresh fruit and vegetables, plastic and plastic goods, automotive main and sub-industry, iron and steel goods, and paper products. The important products in our imports are; iron and steel, petroleum oils, synthetic rubber, refined copper, and copper alloys.
In Turkey's total foreign direct investment stock of $51 billion as of 2022, Serbia ranks 21st with $307 million and a share of 1%. (Netherlands 1st with $21.2 billion, TCMB-2024).
The FTA between the two countries and the golden age in political, economic and commercial relations between the two countries are also accelerating the increase in Turkish investments in this country.
It is important to hold such events frequently in order to develop our bilateral trade relations with Serbia. During the delegation, company visits and B2B business meetings will be held in the construction materials sector with Serbian companies.
