General information

Short Summary
The startup from northern Germany 3D-prints sports halls including all equipment in miniature form. The product tackles the increased need for communication in teaching the school subject sports. Full potential is developed in elementary schools, schools with a high share of pupils with migration background, or education institutions that work with children with special needs. An app, complementing the physical equipment is being developed and will be available soon.
Full Description
Problem description:
Sports classes in schools are usually scheduled once a week. Setting up all necessary equipment for a parcours or specific exercises takes sometimes half the time of the sports class. Even more effort from teachers’ side to include their pupils and communicate is needed, in elementary schools, schools with a high percentage of pupils with migration background, or education institutions that work with children with special needs, short: where oral communication is sometimes not sufficient.

The startup from northern Germany developed in reconciliation with teachers, sports halls with all the typical equipment in miniature format. These sets of sports hall and equipment are 3D-printed (see pictures below). Experiences show that with support of these miniature model, pupils understand faster how they can help setting up all the equipment for specific exercises and parcours and additionally are more motivated by being able to participate. The startup already cooperates with more than 200 schools in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Further partners such as schools, sports clubs, inclusion initiatives etc. are sought for usage cooperation.

The complementing App which is developed right now, generates a completely planned lesson plan specifically for the school, based on the sports hall equipment available in the school (sports equipment, field sizes, swimming pool use, etc.) and the applicable curriculum, as well as the pupils' abilities. This is particularly helpful for the increasing number of non-specialist physical education teachers, who have not acquired any subject-specific competence and thus often do not teach the actual curriculum. The App has a login and payment system which can be used by all school software providers. Schools have to configure all students, teachers and classes once and afterwards can use this configuration in all participating apps. This saves enormous organisational effort.
Advantages and Innovations
The innovation lies in its easy accessibility. When oral communication reaches its limits, visualisation can take over to enable comprehension.
The App has great advantages in terms of planning time, increased possibilities and creativity. For example, based on the available sports equipment and the number of pupils, and considering the time available, the app suggests a number of sports games that fit perfectly into the curriculum and may not yet be known to the teacher. The entire physical education lesson can thus be digitally accompanied. Pupils can also take tests on sports theory (such as an equipment licence, wheeled board licence, etc.) in the app. The theory part of the curriculum is otherwise typically not implemented because the effort to evaluate the tests manually, etc. is too great.
The advantage of a login and payment system platform is a much lower administrative burden for both the schools and the software providers. Newly developed apps, in particular, can bring their app ideas to schools much more quickly and at a lower cost due to the considerable shortening of the development time.
